Guest guest
You can get a pcr Test with a simple blood test. I don't think I have ever had a PCR done on my bone marrow except for the other one either qual or quant-(I always forget which is which) but that only shows positive or negative. The PCR done by the blood test shows what % you are. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Unfortunately, they were only able to get a tissue sample. They were not able to get any liquid, therefore, they will not be able to do a PCR on the bone marrow. My doctor told me that this happens sometimes. It could be fibrosis or a technical issue. She said she will analyze the tissue sample further to get a clearer answer. Has nyone ever had a similar occurrance? Thanks
Guest guest
I agree. And, I recently had a PCR with a blood test, which went well. I came in at .09 However, the doctor now wanted to do a PCR from the Bone Marrow, to see if she could determine if I am in full chromosomal remission. She said a PCR through a bone marrow is more precise. Sharon & Denny <onthewtr@...> wrote: You can get a pcr Test with a simple blood test. Guest guest
The results you should get from a BMB or BMA is the Fish and the cytogenics..He probably was able to get a bone sample but not the marrow. He or she will probably tell y ou it was a dry tap (we all know that term) ...but My doctor still got both results from the bone sample when that happened to me. I would ask your doctor is you could have a PCR blood test. Its not more precise. Comparing results between blood and marrow can be a problem. They do correlate very well but that does not mean the same result. Its always been recommended to pick one source (blood or marrow) and use that consistently for all PCR testing. Marrow seems to run a bit higher PCR values than blood. Here is a problem with marrow. Most people think of marrow as stem cells but its actually a mixture of stem cells and blood. The marrow is continuously perfused by peripheral blood. Depending on the quality of the aspirate, there can be more a bit more blood in it than usual. But peripheral blood is just blood so it will never have problems with consistency during collection. Guest guest
Hey Efrem, No thankfully! I haven't had that not fun-sounding experience, but I am sure it can happen! We will just pray for a good one next time. Nice and juicy! Meanwhile, maybe there will be some good info they can glean from this one anyway. Make lemonade, and all that, right?!
