Guest guest
I am hoping all this will correct a lot of my problems. He said the muscle/bone pain, and fatigue that I have blaming on CML could be related to this critical deficiency as well. He put me on: --Vitamin D 50,000 units weekly times 12 weeks then 50,000 units per month thereafter --CitraCal 2-3 tablets daily --Boniva 150 mg one per month ______________________________ Hi , Sounds like you have found a good doctor! It is important for anyone with cancer to have a good vit. D level....and there is a lot of research related to this going on right now, some at OHSU. When my naturopath first had my vit D level tested, it was below the normal range, I think 15. She would like to see a cancer patient up around 80. I also did the vit D 50,000 units weekly, for 8 weeks and now I continue with 2,000iu a day and I test about mid-range on vit D, so could take a bit more. You will also get vit D out of cod liver oil (the lemon flavored is not bad) but not fish oil unless it is fortified. I am glad that you caught your bone deterioration to deal with it. It would be great is your side effect problems would diminish with these treatments. C.
Guest guest
You know, I think it must be the weather in this part of the world. Both my 89 year old mother and I were tested for our Vitamin D levels by our respective physicians, and we were both low. She was put on 1000 units a day and I was put on 2000 units a day. Isn't that amazing?! I bet that vitamin D deficiency is absolutely pervasive, particularly up here in the northern United States where we get a lot of rainy dark winter days, and are indoors a lot. I personally plan to supplement with it forever. I think it is a good preventive measure to take, and as far as I know the chances for toxicity or adverse effects is extremely remote.
