Guest guest
okay say it ain't so...is that what I have to look forward to? I've been dating a great guy- it is a long distance relationship but I had high hopes for the future. Evenn though I have been celibate since last year( using my energy to stay alive after dx...) All systems appear to be functioning and there is plans for a test run in the near future. I'm not ready to give up that part of me yet- I'm only 56-lol. --- Rosen Lum <rrosenlum@...> wrote: > > OMG I had no idea! I thought it was just me! Guest guest
At 46 I used to love sex and still do but my body is saying other things right now - thin skin bleeding easily (I only have to rub my shin on something and that's it, bang goes full thickness skin gone), loss of hair colour, looking most of the time like a tired out white freak with red facial blotches when hot, red and puffy eyes, the ol' botty problems and tiredness and fatigue most of the day.I'm beginning to think this is a common problem with drugs, though Glivec is certainly taking its toll in many ways.Sex is still a huge part of my agenda and hubby would have it three times a day if I let him, but I still think that Glivec takes the incentive away. By the time I've showered in the morning and then cleaned myself up before sex the enjoyment has gone out of it. Anybody else feel that way? @...: tammy@...: Sun, 1 Jun 2008 22:51:09 -0400Subject: RE: [ ] sex and cml Okay, without divulging TMI, what age are we talking about? Guest guest
I took hrt -plant based estrogen for about two years and then the nurses study came out- so I stopped. The funny thing is when I started having hot sweats from the CML I just thought it was a return of my menopause symptoms. I have no problem with desire...drive. Emotional fear yes physical problems no-lol. Maybe that will change the longer I take the meds. It was a year in March. Have you ruled everything out with docs, no physical reason? I have heard that gleevec can impact sexual desire but that has not been my problem. I've been telling people that I am going to write an article called " Dating in the time of Cancer " - my own experience was finding a great guy after my dx who said- you don't scare me. He was an LAPD 20 year veteran. But you know how sick we are when we start the meds, and my levels were low, no immune systems etc. He couldn't handle it- he was afraid he would make me sick. I couldn't go out to dinner etc. So I went on hiatus-smile. But I'm sticking my toe back in the dating pool. He is a smart, funny 60 year old man who doesn't seem to mind my swollen eyelids, and swollen legs, faint rash that covers my body blah blah blah. He on the other hand has the body of an athletic 45 year old and competes in equestrian events. Dating someone with cancer is not for the faint of heart, we need warriors. As for the physical part- I don't know if there will be problems. The spirit is willing let's hope my body is of the same mind. Stay Tuned. --- Rosen Lum <rrosenlum@...> wrote: > > Wow. Guest guest
I was reading through the mound of post and it is so interesting how many are affected and how many are not affected the same. I am wondering about the sex question and the genders? Being male, I feel pretty normal in the dept, but I realize somewhat diminished, I just attribute to age and longevity of my relationship and where she is at age wise (our early 40's) as well. I did worry after the Dx and once I was feeling amorous again IF she would be scared? Could not blame her if she was, she was great, as I was in 2000 with her cervical cancer. Seems the big " C " loves us! =) All the while these have been such hardships, I still feel so lucky and grateful that I am doing pretty well, working full time and am about to take off on a father/son trip this week to celebrate his 8th grade graduation. So, I am feeling pretty darn lucky today, ever mindful of the CML, but doing my best to let it be part of me, so long as it does not define me. Been an interesting 15 months, that is for sure. One thing, I can honestly say I am way more in tune with my world and life than ever. Cheers, Chris **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Guest guest
thanks Chi! I figured what the heck? Though, I did consult with Tab, she said I was playing with fire to post on a topic like this that mostly the ladies where. But, she knows I am brave! lol Her having had a full hysterectomy at 32, we had already had/have our share of dysfunction in that dept. But, as I assured her post surgery, there is way more to our relationship than just sex. While it is way important at any age, it was hard on her, I know, because of her age of the surgery. But for me as her husband, and I assured her then and still believe it today, if there was never anymore sex, that was ok compared to loosing her. I promise you all this, her cancer and the prospect of loosing her was way harder on me than my CML. Hindsight, what I went through with her has helped me understand what she is going though with my CML. How scared she was/is. Part of why I am posting these comments, maybe assure you all that if the sex is not what it used to be, your spouse may very well miss the sex, of course, who wouldn't, but that is such a non-factor compared to loosing their soul mate. I really mean this and thought perhaps a male point of view might be helpful. When I was in the hospital at time of diagnosis, you know, if the CML where not enough, I had lost almost all my eyesight and we were told it may get worse and may be permanent, then there was the whole being in A-Fib heart beat deal, had the have my heart stopped - restarted. I mean this was a scary deal. Tab's closest girl friend told me recently how Tab had broken down outside, was crying she was going to loose her best friend. I know how she felt, I felt the same way during her illness. My point being, hopefully most spouses are so happy we are doing well, that even some little dysfunctions are ok, compared to not having their spouse around. Guest guest
HI ALL, HOW RIGHT YOU ARE. BEING HERE AND BEING ABLE TO JUST BE TOGETHER IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT. MY SON IN LAW HAS PARKINSON'S. HE IS 55, MY DAUGHTER IS 46. SOME DAYS FOR HIM ARE GOOD, SOME ARE NOT. ONE DAY LAST WEEK HE PARKED HIS TRUCK AND FORGOT WHERE HE PUT IT. HE FINALLY MADE A REPORT TO THE POLICE AND THEY FOUND IT FOR HIM. THEN THAT NIGHT SHE WAS SUPPOSED TO PICK ME UP AND TAKE ME TO ANN ARBOR , MI. FOR MY TREATMENT. SHE CALLED AND SAID SHE COULD NOT FIND HER HUSBAND, SHE WOULD BE BY WHEN SHE DID! HER LIFE HAS SO CHANGED IN EVERY WAY, I PRAY EVERY DAY FOR HER TO BE ABLE TO STAY STRONG AND BE ABLE TO HANDLE THIS NEW LIFE OF HERS. SHE SETS THE ALARM ON HER PHONE FOR EVERY THREE HOURS, AND NO MATTER WHERE SHE IS OR WHAT SHE IS DOING, SHE CALLS HIM TO TELL HIM TO TAKE HIS MEDS. IF HER BUSINESS LIFE HAS CHANGED SO, I CANNOT IMAGINE HOW HER PERSONAL LIFE HAS CHANGED. IT'S TIMES LIKE THAT YOU REALIZE WHAT IS IMPORTANT IN LIFE, AND A MARRIAGE IS DIFFICULT ENOUGH TO GET THROUGH, WITHOUT THROWING IN A SERIOUS ILLNESS. I HAVE NOT HAD A PARTNER IN YEARS, HAT'S OFF TO THOSE OF YOU THAT DO AND CAN SURVIVE THESE DIFFICULT TIMES. AND THAT'S MY TWO CENTS WORTH, BOBBY letitbe@... wrote: thanks Chi! Guest guest
Dear Friends, Besides being a little more tired and achy than before CML, my intimate relationship with my husband is still as wonderful as always. If anything, I am so thankful that I have been able to continue with my life, as close to usual as possible, that I relish in maintaining normalcy in these special areas. Upon diagnosis, I was afraid that my husband would not see me as a whole person anymore because I was " defective. " I know this is stupid but I was vulnerable. Not only has he dispelled all of this nonsense but has also gone on to remind me daily how sexy I am despite my oversized edema ankles and my new water balloon feet. LOL Ladies, thank God for our wonderful husbands because they truly contribute so much to our well being. Even if they get on our nerves once in awhile. Wink, wink. Love, NYC > > > > thanks Chi! Guest guest
Hey Group. . . During my prime, I was married to a much older man; and now I have our bug and numerous other Chronic Illnesses. . .
