Sharon S - Welcome

Leukemia (CML) seems to be the simple condition compared to all your other

health issues.

When first presribed 600mg and sighted the 400mg tablet I wondered if I could

get it down

- as I seem to have trouble swolling tablets at times. I take the whole 600mg

at the same time (do not split)

and find them really easy to swollow - just make sure you have plenty of water.

They are not capsules with

plastic coatings - so this type of medication will be easily digested.

All drugs have side effects - so gleevic is not a loner in that regard just some

people seem to be more

sensitive to the drug than others for whatever reason.

You will be monitored closely, suggestion to have glivec (Australia spelling) on

a full stomach with plenty of water

and move around, do not go back to bed etc. Any side effects contact your

specialist and also write down in a

diary so that you will remember to discuss when you have your next appointment.

I do not have the knowledge of interactions of your other medications with

glivec, however thought this link may

assist in the first instance with knowledge of side effects. The article does

not state on hormone issues and

since 2003 there is more knowledge.

The below is a link for an e-article I read when first diagnosed and about side

effects from glivec. This an old 2003 e-article

and in part is as true then as it is today as in 2008. Transcript from LLS with

Dr Drukers clinical nurse Carolyn Blasdel.

Hope you are in good health other than the being diagnosed with CML.

When I am 100% do not even think about CML - it is only when I am below par or

health issues arise that I think about the condition

You can have a good life with CML.

Sue,

Thanks for the reply and info..No I am not in good health at all.I

have many many health issues.I have also had Gastric Bypass surgery

and Lapband surgery.I am physically unable to take pills larger than

tylenol as the opening to my stomach is the size of an eraser.Large

pills cause blockage and a scope to unplug me.Due to my surgeries I

also malabsorb vitamins/minerals in supplement form as well as food

sources. The Dr is concerned that will not absorb enough of the

medications to help me with CML.I am diabetic/insulin resistant, low

cholesterol,anemic,IBS w/constipation,Diverticulosis,Chronic

gastritis/GERD,Leaky matrial Heart valves.I need bilateral hip

replacements, knee and so many back issues I can't name them all. There

are certain medications I can not take at all due to my WLS like

asprin or anti inflammatories or any other known pouch burners.I have

very little stomach or intestine to absorb things.I can eat about 1/2

cup serving of foods at a time and must sip water throughout the day

as I suffer from dehydration frequently as I can't physically get

enough liquids in me.I am vitamin D deficient as well and have bone

loss and have shrunk 1/2 inch this past year.I was 5'2...not

anymore..lol. I think I listed everything but I might have missed

something.I hope I do as well on Gleevec as you and so many others in

this group have. Thanks for sharing your experience with me..
