Guest guest
I am not on Spyrcel, I am on Gleevec and as long as it keeps me in remission I am staying on it despite the side effects I have with it. So I cannot tell you much about the med she is on. I would just make sure she understands she can't go party to hard. The thing is I was 37 when I was first diagnoised and at the time I wanted to fill normal again so I went to one of those Sci-Fi/horror conventions I used to go to before I was dxed and started treatment. Well like and idiot I drank Vodka the entire night trying as I said to " feel " normal again. Well when I woke up the next day I could barely get out of bed. Granted I was hung over, but it was way beyond that. I use to be able to over come a hang over pretty easy. But this time I couldn't and ended up missing the other two days of this event(wasted $38 bucks) and was useless for two days after. It kills me when I hear of anyone so young that gets a dx like so many of us have had in this group. So I would just pull her doctor to the side and ask him. If he sees no problem let her drink on occasion(if you allowed it before) and just watch her to make sure she does not over do it. Trust me if she drinks one night and feels like I did the next day she will not want to over do it again. Just from my own experience with CML is since I have started treatment in 04 I can't work and am not able to do allot of things I used to be able to do, so at first I would do anything to fill normal again. I miss working, I miss the money I was making. Before things went to hell for me I was making 40k about to make 60k. Now I have to rely on Social Security because Aetna(the company that was paying me a suppliment to that) has stopped paying because my mother's daughter made a claim on my Social and so they lowered the amount to only $289 a month and will not be paying me anything for 40 months to recoup the back pay she received. Anyway I guess what I am saying is it was hard enough on me at 37 to sort of lose part of myself so I cannot imagine what your poor daughter is going through being dxed at 19. I think she just wants to feel normal again. I could be way off here but that is what I think. Take care and I hope she is doing well. Guest guest
In regards to alcohol, I don't believe it changes the drug ( gleevec or tasigna or what ever you take) BUT drugs are processed through the liver. So is alcohol. I think the worry is that there is possible damage to the liver with both. That is my take on it. I do have an occasional glass of chardonney but I think the long term affects on the liver are the greater concern. Be well, Barb in AZ > > I am on Spyrcel 100mg daily and am 36.
