Guest guest
Hello everybody I am new to the group. I have a question. I am from Toronto Canada, and my boyfriend, 32, was diagnosed with CML last month. He needs to go on Gleevec but he doesn't have medical insurance. We went to buy the pills and they cost $3000 for one month supply. So we now applied to the trillium drug plan, and we are hoping this will help. Is anybody from Ontario and has had the same problem. I am not sure how much Trillium can help us. Has anyone had this problem?? Thanks so much Steph
Guest guest
Hi Tracey, The $3000 was a ball park figure, I think it was a little more then that but not quite $3700. It was a pharmacy at Shoppers Drugmart in Stoney Creek, ON. Thank you for your help! Steph [ ] Re: Cost of Gleevec Hi Steph, Welcome to the group. There are a few members from Ontario who post here, hopefully some will give you information regarding Trillium. From what I understand, Trillium does help (using a means test to determine how much they will pay) but they aren't very fast with their reimbursements so you will usually be a few months behind. I have a question for you though, which pharmacy do you go to to get Gleevec at $3000? That would be a bargain here as I pay $3700. Take care, Tracey > > Hello everybody I am new to the group. Guest guest
Terry, I am not at the medicare age as yet, but it does worry me how I am going to pay for Gleevec when the time comes. May I ask you wi which plan D are you on. I would love to track how people over 65 in the U.S. are getting there meds. @...: terrydailey@...: Mon, 9 Jun 2008 10:00:06 -0500Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Cost of Gleevec Hi Steph,You might also try the manufacturer, they have a program to help people whocannot afford Gleevec. Guest guest
Hi Steph. My name is Eva and I live in town,Ontario just north of Brampton. What hospital is your boyfriend being treated at. My oncologist at Credit Valley hospital gave me forms and he filled out some too that go right to Novartis the company that makes Gleevec. It took about 6 weeks but with our insurance it was costing me 371.00 every 2 weeks for 15 pills. Novartis has reimbursed me 289.00 for every receipt that I send them by fax. Without insurance I was told it would cost us 3800.00 a month. My husbands company covers 80 % but I had to send a special form to the insurance to see if they would cover it. This is to help just until I hear from Trillium . You can get the application for trillium from any drug store . I got my application for Trillium at Shoppers here in town. Anything I can do to help just let me know. Take care. Guest guest
My grandmother is 80 years old. The day my grandmother was diagnosed, I called Novartis, the maker of Gleevec. Novartis gave her two or three months of free medicine, until we could get our ducks in a row. It came in the mail. She was already on Medicare part D. She now has a Humana prescription policy. She gets Social Security prescription assistance and then PSI pays the rest. She does pay $5.00 a month but, that's nothing compared to the original cost of $3,000 a month. Guest guest
Hey Eva. I guess we live pretty close, I am from Hamilton. He is going to hospital. My doctor mentioned nothing about the forms from Novartis but I will look into it right away. We too are waiting for our papers to come in fro Trillium. So you are still waiting from Trillium. p.s. it's nice that your doctor offered you that information. Our doctor prescribed it and sent us on our way. It;s nice to get some assistance as to where to go to find this stuff. Thanks again! Steph > > > > Hello everybody I am new to the group. I have a question. Guest guest
Hi Stephe, I can recall when Gleevec was approved in Canada and I had to pay for it myself. It was $43,000 a year. My insurance paid 80% which left about $9,000 a year for me to pay. I applied to Trillium. They did a means test and left me with $3,000 a year to pay. This continued until I turned 65. I now pay $6.11 for each prescription. For those who don't know the Canadian system, what I described is only for the province of Ontario. Each of the different provinces has their own method of how they implement health care. Guest guest
Hi Stephe, Zavie is correct- every province is so different..to say we have universal healthcare in not true. In BC , we don't have to pay for Gleevec at any point, we just pick up 3 mth supplies from our local pharmacy hospital. There is no paperwork for patients or putting out of any funds. Here is a link for information on access around Canada (below) HERE <http://www.cmlsociety.org/?q=node/7> Hope this helps. If you are having trouble paying for your Gleevec, you might qualify for some assistance from PSI in paying your portion (co-pay, deductible, etc). I think that stands for Patient Services Incorporated and they have a website for information. C.

Guest guest
Granny has Humana, social security prescription help and PSI paying for hers. Re: [ ] cost of gleevec Date: Sunday, November 7, 2010, 7:16 PM Medicare does not pay for Gleevec.Do you have anything with your work!! Consider you need about $7000.00 worth of meds for 90 days look for a plan that has life supporting drugs with lowest co pay. I pay $12.00 for 90 days with my plan from retirement. Have been on 600 Gleevec for 5 years, that is about $400,000 so far. Good Luck
Guest guest
Yow. I'm scared to death. I got laid off in 2008 and I have no insurance. I get Tasigna from Novartis, but I don't expect to do that forever. I've heard they will fund you for up to three years, then you're on your own.
