Hi,

I started treatment on sprycel but the first months were rough. I was super

tired too and had some rough headaches. It has gotten much better although as

others may have said it's a new normal and learning to balance your energy

levels takes practice.

It does get better... It takes time, and you may have a time where the docs take

you off the drug for a break, but our bodies seem to adjust somehow and over

time i has more energy than in the first few weeks. Im only a few months ahead

of you but it has been a long 7 months of learning and there are new things to

learn and laugh at every day. Sometimes we play count the bruises since i seem

to bruise easily. Kinda crazy but it helps to be silly in the midst of all these

new side effects!

Rest well and know that we are with you on this journey.

Everyone is different - keep your doc updated on your

symptoms . Things were rocky for me but they did get

better.

G'day Sharon,

It is still only early days so hopefully everything will settle down for

you. I am one of the 1% who gets severe headaches ~ migraines and take

various medications to assist to manage them. I have required several Glivec

breaks and at present am on only 200mg, which I am tolerating. I am OK until

I get the lovely tadpole eyes and get headaches and burning pain around my

® eye, which isn't relieved by fluid tablets.

You need to tell your haematologist and get some medication to help. You

should only ever take medication that has been given the OK - this is very

important! I take codeine and panadol - the Aussie Drs allow this, while US

Drs prefer others, as our med combinations are not the same.

The unfortunate fact is that Glivec will make you feel really tired and

takes a while to become adjusted to it - that's where this group is a great

resource. I wasn't sick at all when I was diagnosed last July, so was a

complete shock to the system to start taking a drug which changed your

quality of life.

Regards,

--hi Sharon, with me everything got better within 3 months. What do

you take the B-12 shots for? I got one last week, but that was because

my B-12 was low according to my blood work. Do they give you energy?

It seems like since i've been on Gleevec my vitamine D is low,my B-12

is low and my colesteral has come down[ from 262 to 200],but that is

a good thing. I think you will feel better as the leukemia cells die

off.

Hang in there.

Esther,

I take B-12 because I have had Gastric Bypass surgery and

malabsorb food,vits and minerals.I have to supplement heavily.The B

vites help keep the ferritin levels up(Iron Storage).Helps with

treating anemia.I also take 10,000iu daily of sublingual Vit.D as I

am defiencient in that as well.I take A,D,E,C,Magnesium

oxide,magnesium citrate,calcium,b-12,b-6,folic acid,pantothenic

acid, multi vit(liquid).I don't get my vits from food.I also have to

drink 60-90 grams of Whey protein shakes daily..I take about 30 pills

a day plus my diabetis injections and B-12 injections..Seems like

alot but I have to or my health deteriorates..

Thanks for sharing the info..Try to get your vit D level up..Don't

need osteoporosis ar any other trouble from lack of D..

Thanks
