Guest guest
WOW! SKIP, 30 ++++ YEARS? YOU MUST HAVE INVENTED THE WORD SURVIVOR. CONGRATULATIONS! I THOUGHT I HAD SOME YEARS IN, 13, I'M A BABY NEXT TO YOU. ALSO ON SPRYCEL, BUT ABOUT TO COME OFF IT, I AM NO LONGER IN CCR, SINCE SEP. TOO BAD, I LOVE THIS DRUG, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF PLEURAL EFFUSION WHICH DID NOT HAPPEN FOR 2 1/ 2 YEARS, I'VE HAD NO SIDE EFFECTS. I'M HOPING TO ENTER A NEW TRIAL SHORTLY, PERHAPS ARIAD? CONTINUED GOOD LUCK TO YOU, BOBBY DOYLE Hello Zavie and all :- just a note to let you know that I may, in a couple of week, be taken off Nilotinib and put on Dasatinib (Sprycel). My Doctor is not happy with the results, but says no worries, I had a chest x-ray today in preparation and will need another BMB within two weeks. The drug is quite expensive, but my drug plan will cover most of it. $5000 for 60 pills. I am not sure if that is the standard price in all drug stores. The doctor also increased my Exjade up to 2000mg a day, that is another very expensive drug. I am fast becomming the 3 million dollar man. MY ferritin count jumped up to 2837 as of last Thursday. Just too many infusions of HGB. I was given an infusion of HGB yesterday and today before seeing the Doctor I was given platelets. I sure hope that this new way of the blood service getting and processing blood products will slow my getting so many infusions, not sure about that. In case you did not know about this process it is called BUFFY COAT . not sure why it is called that.. The two doctors I see are getting my history they plan on doing some type of paper on how I survived so many years without all these modern drugs. In fact my first Hematologists retired this year, gosh he was about my age when we first met, I may have been a couple of years older than he was.. Well that is an update for now... will let you know if anything happens between now and the couple of weeks he takes to make up his mind about changing drugs.. I go back to see him at the end of this month .. Be safe all have a great day, I have been assured that warm weather is to arrive here before August. Guest guest
Skip and all, here is info from Wikipedia about buffy coat. " After centrifugation, one can distinguish a layer of clear fluid (the plasma), a layer of red fluid containing most of the red blood cells, and a thin layer in between, making up less than 1% of the total volume of the blood sample, the buffy coat (so-called because it is usually buff in hue), with most of the white blood cells and platelets. The buffy coat is used, for example, to extract DNA from the blood of mammals (since mammalian red blood cells are anucleate and do not contain DNA). The buffy coat is usually whitish in color but sometimes green, if the blood sample contains large amounts of neutrophils, which are high in green myeloperoxidase. " I have heard it referred to often in the dictation that I transcribe, but wasn't sure myself what it referred to. Thanks for bringing it up so I could learn something too. You hang in there! We will get through this one, too. You have survived a long time, so you know about these ups and downs. Take care, and prayers for your good health. Vicki > > WOW! SKIP, 30 ++++ YEARS?
