Guest guest
Dear Sharon, I am on sprycel and have put on 20 pounds that I really can't afford to have since I am 5feet 5. My current weight has reached 180. I did go to weight watcher for awhile but to now avail. I don't eat alot at meals but I do graze alot during the day. A little here and a little there. I know the meds do make you put on weight also but can't blame it all on that. So I guess I just accept it and thank the Lord that I get up each day in remission. Hang in there. I liked the idea someone posted of having a weight support group. God Bless You and yours Carolyn
Guest guest
Hi Bobbie, you are so funny you bring a lot of joy to all of us. Face in the Mirror " is a group of women that help cancer patients by making t hem look pretty with make up and do other nice things for them so that they can feel good about themselves again. It is only in Arizona that I know of. My mother could have used someone like that when she was dying 6 years ago of cancer. It was awful to see her go as she did. Go to Faceinthemirror.com and see if you can read about it. Guest guest
Hi Carolyn and Everyone! I'm one of the veteran CML warriors in the group and I'm in the process of taking off 20 pounds I gained during the last 9 months to a year. I don't blame Sprycel for the gain although it may be a culprit in the difficulty of taking it off! I, too, was on Gleevec and gained enormous amounts of weight. It didn't matter how little I ate it just wouldn't come off until one day, with no apparent reason, the weight started dropping off and of a sudden I was back to my normal 135 pounds. Go figure. Anyway, I thought I would pass along a few tips that I've used successfully that may or may not help you. I live very near a Bally Total Fitness gym which I joined recently. They're all over the place and you can join for $25 then pay $18 a month to work out 3 days a week which is plenty for me. I use counterweight machines for strength and toning and will begin using the indoor pool one day out of my 3 to do water calisthenics and just swim. I'm 62 years old. Both hips have been ruined by BMBs and I have a bum knee. Therefore, I am very kind to myself and do not set the bar too terribly high so that I don't get disappointed and quit. I'm an ice cream lover and I chose that and potato chips to give up during this diet. I replaced it with yogurt which I also love and occasionally I eat potatoes cooked without very much oil instead of stuffing my face with greasy, salty, crunchy chips. Lays didn't do me any favors by putting out a new product -- extra crunchy chips. Yum. I also love hamburgers. I eat them with all the fixings minus the bun. Tomatoes, lettuce, pickles and onions. Just no bread. They're still really good. I also gave up cheese except for cottage cheese. Hope this helps someone. Be good to yourself. Remember. We already have to sacrifice so much. Good luck! Guest guest
Sharon T, I got a bike for Mothers Day year before last from my son(18).I absolutely love it.An additional plus was that my son rides with me at times and we get quality time together.I am not a huge fan of exercise either.I enjoy my bike and it is fun not like the usuall dread with the E word..Hope you enjoy it just as much and shed the 10 pounds in no time.. Guest guest
Sharon T, That sounds like a wonderful group..My B/f mother whom I hospice cared for died last year from cancer and loved it when I did her makeup for her and rubbed lotion all over her body for her.No one else did the special things for her like I did and she really loved and appreciated it.It makes a difference..
