Guest guest
Just a short note about dentists and mitral valves. When you have your teeth cleaned you need to pre-medicate, but it isn't necessary for other procedures. , I couldn't find your original post on this. Have you been diagnosed with MVP (mitral valve prolapse)? Are you seeing a cardiologist? While I didn't have MVP, I did have a severely damaged mitral valve. Contact me if you have any questions. There are several good sites on the net, but your BEST source of information should always be the cardiologist who sees you. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Take care, Zazzy
Guest guest
Hi I found out I have mitral valve regurgitation. I wrote to Carolyn (Dr Druckers assistant). She indicated that there was no known tie to Gleevec. I went through a battery of heart tests. No other big issues. I play basketball 2 mornings a week and my cardiologist told me to keep playing (I am 49). Aside from the antibiotics before my Dentist visits I don't do anything else. Guest guest
Hi, How long ago were you diagnosed? Are you on meds? I was dxed with mitral regurg at age 37, 10 years before needing any surgery. The main thing here is to be sure that you see your cardio every year without fail and have the appropriate testing. I had a four-year span where I didn't see the cardio... busy with work and all, until one day I started noticing that things weren't quite right. So please keep up with this. Guest guest
Hi, Chris. I have mitral valve regurgitation as well. I used to have to pre-medicate before dentist's appointments, but was told last year that, according to new protocols, it is no longer necessary. That was a big relief for me since I used to occasionally forget to take my anti-biotics, only to be reminded after I was in the dentist's chair -- then I'd have to reschedule my appointment. What a pain in the neck that was. Anyway, I don't know if you find pre- medicating as annoying as I did, but you might consider asking your doctor whether it's still necessary. Warm regards. > > > Just a short note about dentists and mitral valves. > > When you have your > > teeth cleaned you need to pre-medicate, but it isn't > > necessary for > > other procedures. > > > > , I couldn't find your original post on this. > > Have you been > > diagnosed with MVP (mitral valve prolapse)? Guest guest
Hi , My dentist still pre-meds when I have my teeth cleaned, but perhaps that is because I have an angioplasty ring in connection with my valve repair and at risk for bacterial endocarditis. Hope you are doing well with your regurg.
