Yucky stuff - i will hold you in my prayers From: awristen1 <awristen1@...> Subject: [ ] Poison Ivy/Sumac Date: Thursday, June 26, 2008, 5:27 AM I was raking around a tree this past weekend in the country. It had poison Sumac hiding in the leaves and it attacked me, I have it on my face arms legs oh you name it. I am one big itch. Does anyone have any good ideas I am using benadryl cream and Caladryl lotion, and milk oc magnesium ( my grandmother used it on itchums as a drying agent. In years past I would wind up in the er because I am so allergic. But would really avoid this if at all possible. And in taking Sprycel I really do not know what or if I can take anything. I would appreciate all advise as i am very miserable. Anita

Guest guest
Hi Anita, I feel sorry for you, we have poison oak here too and I get occasionally hit when I am camping. Shower is better than the bath tub. The poison is an oil called urushiol and if you jump as is in the bath tub it will spread even more. Clean everything (clothes, shoes, etc) that has been in contact with the poison ivy, the oil can stay active 2 years. Take a look at http://www.poison-ivy.org/html/faq.htm Marcos. Guest guest
I just went through a bout with Poison ivy after working in my yard. The Dr gave me HC cream to put on it twice a day. I used that and calamine lotion. I would not recommend bleach that sounds pretty drastic. I don't envy you it took two weeks for it to start clearing up. Hang in there. Guest guest
Hi Anita, I nev er had poison sumac, but have had terrible bouts with poison ivy, even being confined to bed for two weeks. An old fashioned cure: buy a cake of Fels Naptha soap and make a soapy past and apply and leave it there. You've heard all the rest, my friend swore by scrub the b listers and apply b leach, I was to chicken. Another said when the first blister comes, cover with tapem it won'd spread and you can scratch it. I have also been told it can not spread from one part of you body to another, by touching, you only get it from the oil in the plant itself. But as someone said, that oil will stay on tools and golf clubs etc. for two years.......gool luck. Bobby I was raking around a tree this past weekend in the country.
