Guest guest
Hi Sharon, My first suggestion is to get a new doctor. You should not have gone 3-4 weeks without a blood test right after you started treatment. You have no idea how you're going to react to the drug and any doctor who knows what they're doing will test you each week until you're stabilized. This could take a couple of weeks or even a couple of months. For all you know, your platelets could have crashed causing you to bruise everywhere. This could be a serious problem if your platelets are low enough so you really need to be followed closely at the beginning. I don't mean to scare you but you really do need a doctor who knows what they're doing, especially since you have other health issues to juggle. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, I agree with Tracey. I had blood work every week for about 3-4 months after diagnosis. He did not space my bloodwork out until I had the same stable readings for at least 6 weeks. I would question this doctor - and ask him to do the blood work. You also can request a copy ( I have a copy of every test since diagnosis 5-5-2002) to compare your own data. There is a good book on leukemia, and that explains the blood results well. You can find it on Amazon. It is called Adult Leukemia by Barbara Lackritz. It answered absolutely every question I had about ALL the treatment options for me. And I close wishing you so much good health....Take a deep breath, relax and know that all will be well. Guest guest
Barb, Thanks for the info..I am already in a habit of requesting lab copies and tracking them closely due to other health issues. Now to get the DR. to do the blood work.. I will find a copy of that book and read it all. There is so much to learn.Everyone says be proactive and ask questions..Problem is I have no idea what questions to ask..So I am asking here until I glean enough info to best help myself.. Thanks to you and all the others here who have ben so informative and helpful I might learn this stuff yet.. Guest guest
Fwiw, I was advised to take my thyroid first thing in the a.m. on an empty stomach and with no other pills (btw Gleevec diminishes the effect of thyroid to a degree). I was also advised to take Gleevec at one end of the day and my anti-depressant at the other. From: serenitywon@... I take 2 100mg tablets in the A.m and 2 100mg in the P.M.I take them with all my other medications like diabetis, acid reflux pain pills,IBS meds etc. Thanks in advance for any info SharonS _________________________________________________________________ HotmailĀ® goes with you. http://windowslive.com/Tutorial/Hotmail/Mobile?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_HM_Tutorial_Mob\ ile1_052009
