Bone Pain

Gretchen,

Thank you so much for the links.

I don't believe that this pain I have is arthritis. I feel like it probably is a

type of nerve pain maybe. It feels like my leg/foot aches and throbs. Sometimes

one leg, sometimes leg and arm some times all of them.

I don't know if this makes sense or not, but could it be nerve pain? I wonder

because I had it bothering me most all day yesterday, but when I woke up this

morning it was gone. Also I believe that cold weather could make it worse. I'm

gonna see how it goes this winter to confirm that. It was interesting for me to

read that others with CMT suffer more in the cold weather.

Sorry that I haven't posted much but life has been busy, but I want you all to

know that I really glean a lot from the posts. As I get them in my email, I read

all of them. I want to know all I can about my condition.

Thank you all for everything, and especially Gretchen for .

Just wanted you all to know that I found out the MDA has " picked me up " (for a

lack of a better way to say it) and they will cover any costs I have that my

insurance won't cover, so 2 weeks ago my Dr. had me give blood for the DNA test.

I will know what the results are at the beginning of Dec.

As well as CMT I have problems with my right hip. I am currently waiting for a

total hip replacement. Due to the amount of pain I am in with my hip i am on a

high dose of morphine, as well as my other pain killers.

But this aching I have in my bones especially my shin bones is the worst pain I

have ever had. Including the many broken bones I have had. Even the morphine

dosn't touch this aching. Nothing helps, pain killers, rubbing, stretching.

I am not sure which type of pain it is, just if anyone has any ideas how to ease

it. Please let me know.

Hi ,

Besides CMT in the legs I have arthrites in my right hip, knee, ankle and toe.

You are right about the bone pain. Nothing seem to help it. The best I have had

was Cortisone.

It only lasts for about 2 and half months though I cannot have a

replacement because I have Pagets disease of the bone also.

Hi Sara

I have heavy mets to the bone from prostate cancer. I am virtually pain free

and wish I could say prescisely which of the substances I take daily is a pain

reducer. Certainly I was in a lot of pain before doing these things. My feeling

is that it is a combination of everything I am doing. I am also on the Budwig

diet. I add a tablespoon of MSM to the cottage cheese/flaxseed oil mix. MSM is

said to help with pain. Here is the recipe for my morning drink.

4 Tablespoons cottage cheese

2 Tablespoons flax seed oil

1 Tablespoon MSM

1 Tablespoon Whey

Juice of 2 fresh oranges

2 Tablespoons of Pomegrante concentrate

1 Tablespoon of Genistien

It makes quite a heavy drink so you might want to add more juice.

In addition to the above I drink Jasmine green tea with a little maple syrup

all day long, made fresh from loose leaves.

I also drink at least 8 ounces of Pau-Darco tea

and 8 ounces of Rishi Mushroom tea which I make from dried mushrooms. I boil

the mushrooms for about half an hour. Let them steep, then boil them again and

make about two quarts at a time.

I drink 8 to 16 ounces of raw juice per day. This is carrott/apple and

broccoli or brussel sprouts. You dont get too much juice out of broccoli so I

clean the filter just for doing broccoli and use stalk and all.

And.....at least 8 ounces of lemonade made from the juice of one lemon, maple

syrup and a quarter teaspoon of Cayenne pepper.

I am also on Bisophoshonates which is recommended for bone tumors.

Thats a lot of liquids to drink but by spacing them thru the day I can get it

done.

Some of the pain that I experienced was definately due to inflammation, so I

also take two capsules of Zyflamend per day from New Chapter. This product

contains Tumeric,Holy Basil,Ginger and other substances helpful to reduce

inflammation.

Looking at the above one would think " how can I ever do all that " But....its

like everything else, once you learn how to do it, and after you do it for a

while, you just become faster and faster at it, creating little shorcuts in your

own kitchen space that speed things up.

It takes a little time for these things to become really effective. In the

meantime for rapid relief she might ask the doctor for a prescription of

Oxycontin 12 hour release. Combine this with Ibuprofen and you have a most

effective combination of pain relief. Oxycontin is always a decision because of

the fear of addiction, and there is major concern for liver damage from

ibuprofen, so they should be used sparingly.

If none of the above are effective then you have to step up to some kind of

intervention and I am sure your Oncologist will suggest Radiation and or Chemo,

so its much better to work hard on alternative means.

Good Luck.

Good Morning Guys

Just wanted to ask about bone pain.

I had bone pain very early in the piece when first diagnosed.

You all know the feeling, isolated that you can feel exactly where

the pain is and then Comes and goes etc. Then disappears as gleevic

works.

However, this feeling has started up again.

I haven't had any for such a very long time. Nearly a year.

Then all of sudden I have had a week of isolated bone pain again.

Right foot, left shin and left hip (not at the same time thank god.)

Now gone.

Possibly glivec doing its wonderful work.

Has anyone experienced this type of bone pain again after a long time

without the side effect? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I have after 1 1/5 years on Gleevec, it's started up again. Mine seems to

be all on my left side. I'm going to Dr next week and rule out some other

problem.

Not all calcium is easily absorbable, look for hydroxyapetite and don't forget the magnesium) and only 600 mg at a time, . Best thing I've found for bone pain is vitamin D3. Have her D levels checked and try to get them up to about 70.

Thanks Guys

I got Calcium tabs 500mg with magnesium 250mg to add to the list. Jacinta is already on 5000ui vitamin D3 and 2000mg vitamin C so hopefully you are right and the calcum/magnesium will do the trick. I will keep you posted

Thanks MJH and Connie and all

She will probably need a one to one ratio of Mg to Ca for a while to correct an imbalance. Liquid forms of Mg seem to be best absorbed and should be taken at a different time than Ca. My doc told me to take about 600 to 1200 mg Mg a day in divided doses to avoid loose stools.

I certainly hope Jacinta's underlying pain issue is resolved with minimal narcotics so she can continue on LDN.
