Dear Listers,

I hope that you will not mind me posting information about a forthcoming

course that is being held in South Wales on 21st March 2006. Dr

Shattock has kindly agreed to present a 1-day course on Biomedical

Approaches to Autism. The focus of the course will be on a theoretical

model that admits a genetic predisposition for autism but stresses the

role of environmental factors e.g. changes in patterns of infectious

disease, drugs, dietary changes etc.. Implications for therapy and

treatment are considered and relevant interventions discussed.

The course will explore the range of biological (traditional and

alternative) interventions associated with Autistic Spectrum Disorder

(ASD) and their underpinning theoretical bases. This will include an

in-depth examination of the opioid excess theory relating to autism and

the implications for everyday practice. Dr Shattock is the current

Director of the Autism Research Unit at the University of Sunderland and

received an OBE for services to autism in 1998.

The cost of the course is £99.00 for professionals and £49.00 for

parents/unpaid carers. If you would like more information about the

course or wish to book a place then please email me offlist at

cetwales@.... This is a fundraising initiative for The

Children's Educational Trust (Wales) and all proceeds will be used to

further the objects of the charity. CET (Wales)operates an ABA School

in South Wales in addition to providing other services to children and

adults with ASD and their parents and/or carers.

Many Thanks,

SECRETARY
