Hey Katy

I was excited to see that you are from Paducah!!! My Husband was

born and raised there we visit a few times a year, it would be good

to meet another CMLer. Do you go Downtown very often? My Husbands

Mom has a shop down there called Berrycreative she sells sock

monkeys, art etc. Did you go to Heath High School by any chance?

Dear Katy,

Hawaii is a beautiful relaxing, serene place. I go there to return to nature

and all the wonderful things in life.!

I was born and raised on a little island called Kauai. It has changed so so

much since I was a child but I still return almost every year. I know the

places to go where it is not crowded.

I never even give volcanoes a second thought. You would love it if you

decided to visit. I know you would. It is heaven to me.

When I was first dx in 2004 I immediately wanted to return to Kauai. So my

husband and I went there for three weeks and just relaxed.

Of course I would love to visit Kentucky too! From what I see of it - it is

beautiful!!!

We must live every day to it's fullest and enjoy our loved ones.

I am a gramma of 11- twelfth on the way. I am 65 and have had CML for 4

years. I am on Tasigna and doing very very well. I hope it lasts.

Take care and aloha

sharon

Donna,

Lol...nope sorry I wasnt a pirate I was a greyhound! I graduated in 1978

from Reidland. Although I admit I would have much wrather have gone to heath. My

best friends lived in Heath and I went to church at Highpoint. What year did

your husband graduate? I dont go downtown too much usually just to drop my

daughter off at the Saturday Night after dinner thing they do and to take my son

to work at the McCracken County Library. I am pretty much a hermit (as my

husband calls me...lol) but he cant talk cause he is too. I think he and I both

would enjoy the Saturday Night thing, they have five blocks blocked off and have

street venders and street singers and stuff, but he works midnights and is so

tired that he doesnt want to do much more then sit in his chair on his days off.

It 's funny cause he is 15 years younger then I and I cant get him to move!!!

Yes it would be nice to meet someone else who actually has CML. I have only met

one person with it and that is my neurologist. Which since being dx'ed he (he

has had it for about 13 yrs now, me only 5) has become more a friend then a

doctor. He even volunteered at one point to pay for a plane ticket so I could

get into a trial. I refused though, I felt that would be the quickest way to

lose a good friend. He has been very inspirational to me and has even told me to

call him at home anytime I just need to talk. I had asked my original onc. (Dr.

who just retired) if there was a support group for CML in Paducah and he

said there werent enough people here to form one. So this group and my Neuro.

are my support. It would be nice sometime when your in town to meet you. Just

let me know!

Hugs,

Katy

Wow, I live presently in Louisville Kentucky, but will be moving to Southern

Indiana soon with my 14 year old. That's pretty wild you live so close. I

went through Paducah on my a road trip to New Orleans before I was

dxed. I did not actually stop there but drove through to get to I think it

was I-150 that goes straight to LA from KY. With my hair and being so pale I

tend to scare people and small children, until they get to know me at

least..lol. So I tend to not go out much anymore...lol.

Hi Katy,

Stan graduated in 83 he is younger than I am (6 1/2 yrs). We went to

the Downtown thing once it was alot of fun, my Mother in Law really

enjoys it, it is good for business too.

Was it you that was asking if others worried about other cancers? I

am a complete headcase about it, I am convinced I have cancer in my

Lymph nodes, I know that it is really bad to dwell on things like

that but I think about it constantly. I have lost my sane mind since

dx in many ways!!!

Have a great week!

By now you will have had the LLC so I hope all went well and they sedated you.

I know what you mean about BMB's and being painful. The first one I had was

absolutely brutal - this will be just a little uncomfortable - what an

understatement. No more of them without sedation for me.

Let us know how you made out today.

Hugs,

Judy P. in Calgary

Katy, your poem is absolutely beautiful and so very true. Having CML is a

journey that none of us wants to take, but once we're on that road, God can

show us some blessings that we would have missed otherwise, if we'll let

Him. One of those is definitely the lovely, supportive friends that we find

along the way. I hope things are better for you soon.

Gay Bratton

It has been a few weeks since I posted. So much has gone wrong in the

last month for my family! One thing right after the other....Four

weeks ago I took my son and dropped him off at Bellermine

University,(so of course I have empty nest and have been kinda

depressed)two days later our air quit on our trailor. It cost 129

dollars for someone to come out and tell us it was actually going to

cost over $1700 to fix it! We did'nt even have the $129 to begin

with....soooo I went out and bought window fans. I cannot take the

Sprycel while it is getting up to almost 100 degree's inside so I have

been off of it for a month! Well about a week later our car broke

down, so now we drive it only when nessacary and hope and pray it

doesnt die. Then two weeks later (last weekend) Ike blew thru Texas

and visited Kentucky!! Our trailor has about $6000 dollars worth of

damage. We went without power or water for about 24 hours. But you

know it coulda been alot worse! A neighbor had their whole roof torn

off, my son went without power for about 4 days and Texas is still

suffering. I am just grateful to God that we still have a roof over

our heads and food! Anyway I said all that to kind of lay the ground

work for why I wrote what I am about to post. From time to time I get

words in my head and they just seem to burst out onto paper. I write

pro's and some poetry. Usually it is when I am kind of

depressed...(you know that artist thing goin on..lol) I start writing

and it is very therapuetic, by the time I am done I usually feel alot

better. I don't usually share alot of my writing but this one I would

like to share....I hope you enjoy and I am sorry all this is so long!

Hugs,

Katy

ps....sorry about some of the spelling, I may not know how to spell it

but I DO know how to use it..lol

Traveling This road so weary and worn............

My heart unravels broken and torn.........

I'm sick, I'm tired, I'm down and out...

Like a farmer after a long hard drought.....

Anguish and despair fill my soul.......

CML carries it's very own set of woe's.......

We carry a burden so heavey and sad.......

Regreting what we have left behind.....

Or maybe just never had.........

The rain pours a cold hard mist........

We search blindly in the darkness and

Stumble upon a list........

Full of knowledge and caring concern......

Strangers meeting in uncertainty......

Falling into one anothers virtual arms.....

Comforting and calling and sharing our pain.....

The fog of confusion begins to fade.....

Drops of golden sun filter into our minds.....

Lush green umbrella's formed of tree's....

Spring into existence......

They fill us with hope.....

People coming together as one.......

Our hearts start to sing.......

Home come's into view......

Suddenly it no longer matters......

How battered and beaten our bodies appear.......

Our spirits soar as our burdens are lifted by unseen hands.....

We are loved and comforted by fellow man.......

Who are we to say......

That maybe, just maybe that was not what He had in mind......

That it was not exactly God's plan.......

To open us up, and make us see......

That we cannot make it alone....it has to be......You and Me!
