I just checked with the Novartis Tasigna website and it states that there

should be no food two hours BEFORE taking the drug or one hour AFTER taking it.

I just read the recent posts about Tasi and read that some people had it

backwards. I rechecked to make sure this is the way Novartis recommends taking

it. I've been on Tasigna for two months. I find the fasting somewhat

difficult. The first dose isn't a problem, but the second is, depending when

the

first one was taken. The recommendation is that they be taken twelve hours

apart or as close to twelve hours as possible. Therefore, if I take the first

one at 7 a.m. on an empty stomach, I could have breakfast at 8 a.m. This is

fine, except that then I'd need to take the evening dose at 7 p.m. requiring

fasting two hours before and one hour after. This three hour span is just

when we eat our evening meal. I can't take the morning dose too late in the

morning or else the night dose would be too late and I'd be asleep before

taking it. I'm trying to keep a 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. schedule. The main

problem

with that is if I don't eat breakfast or have coffee by 8 a.m., then it's

nothing until 11 a.m. It puts me in a very bad mood and I'm starving until I

can eat at 11 a.m. Whew! It makes Gleevec seem like the " good old days " !

Please make sure you know it's two hours BEFORE and one hour AFTER fasting

for Tasigna to avoid QT prolongation.

,

That is why I take it then wait 2 hrs. to eat-for my evening dose usually

5pm

Then I am up at 5am and take it and go back to bed for an hour or two.

Works great for me.
