Guest guest
Many of you have become caregivers. Here are some tips on how to take care of yourself. Caregivers must take care of themselves because if they get sick it will affect the person they care for. It’s also beneficial to allow yourself to lessen unrealistic expectations. Try saying—and really believing—“I may not be perfect, but I’m doing the best I can.” Also, join a respite program, hire a caregiver for certain times, or share responsibilities with another family member or friend. Everyone needs time for his or her own needs and interests. Understand that you cannot do it all. Caregivers often believe that if they just try hard enough, they can manage everything themselves. But it’s not true. Guest guest
Lottie, that is so true. My grandmother's sister in law has been a great help. I work 5 days a week, but when Granny is feeling good, me, my husband and the two kids go boating, to the beach and/or fishing. I just have to get away sometimes and relax because I never know when I am going to have to take Granny to the doctor or emergency room or if she is going to be feeling really low and that can be so stressful. I did get sick with some gallbladder issues a while back and thank goodness that Granny was ok during that time. I feel so bad for her and worry about her so much because I know she is sicker than she lets on at times. I'll call to check on her and she'll say " you don't worry about me " . But, I can't help but worry! Sometimes I find it hard to sleep for worrying. -- Kristie Skipper skipper3@... -------------- Original message -------------- From: " Lottie Duthu " <lotajam@...> > Many of you have become caregivers.
