Guest guest
yes Matt from what i have read and been told we could be affected and that is why they watch us closely, and do many follow up tests like on out liver, pancrease, heart, etc. Sharon T _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of mtmaynor@... Considering that most cancer patients do regimens of chemotherapy for 12 weeks and then follow up with a year or so of radiation or other therapy, it seems that we too could be affected by 10 plus years of Gleevec, Sprycel and Tasigna. Is there any long term reports on how it affects our bodies? Should we also be concerned about long term usage? Guest guest
Hi Matt, Traditional cancer treatments are severely toxic to the body which often cause long term effects. While Gleevec (and the other TKI's used for CML), can be difficult to tolerate, they aren't at all in the same realm as the treatments used for other cancers at least in terms of toxicity to healthy cells. Since our treatments are on going for the rest of our lives, there is a concern over long term effects but I remember in one of the last teleconferences that secondary cancers and long term effects were looked at (from the IRIS trial patients) and it was found that no such effects were evident (yet).
