Guest guest Posted June 20, 2008 Report Share Posted June 20, 2008 Hi! My boyfriend has been on hydroxyurea/hydrea for over a month now. He has been on it for this long because we have not had access to Gleevec so far. We are waiting for our trillium papers to come through, but luckily we just recently were given one months supply of Gleevec. His blood counts went back to normal after about 3 weeks on hydrea, however after our appointment today, his platelet levels were really high, and his WBC's were very high again. He will start the Gleevec (finally) tomorrow. Has anyone had similar experiences with the hydrea? I am a little worried that since he already built some type of resistance to hydrea, then will have the same reaction to Gleevec??? Also, we are making an appointment with Dr. Lipton for an informational meeting. I heard through someone he is the go to guy in my area. Is this true? Is he someone worth going to visit? Thanks!
