Guest guest
You're in the right place. Comments interspersed. S S --- On Sun 04/22, iluvhomeschoolingmykids < I am very new to all of the idea of treating autism with diet and nutrition, etc. My 14 year old son is " somewhere " on the sprectrum. I have to do something to help my son. This morning he got up, and sat on the side of his bed, and it was as if he couldn't decide what he wanted to do next. He couldn't decided on getting a shower or not. IT took him 1 1/2 hours to get ready to go to church. We stopped at Burger King for a sausage, egg, cheese cousaint. A littler over a 1/2 hour later, he was having an emotional break down. He also has a massive headache. I did give him a Peptizyde before the meal. We have to get to the bottom of this! I talked to him about no dairy including milk and eggs for a week trial. He desperately wants to get better so he has agreed to try this! I am reading " Austism: Effective Biomedical Treatments " by Drs. Jon Pangborn and Sidney Baker. I have also been reading Any's information, Dana's view as well as learning from all of you for about a month now. Does this sound like something you have seen in your child? *I have no children on or off the spectrum but my husband and I are long-time (14 & 20+ years) vegans and I'm also gluten-free. How do I go about making sure he doesn't have any dairy products at all? Do I have to worry about hidden ingredients? What can I give him for breakfast before school tomorrow? He normal drinks tons of milk and loves cereal and eggs. *We like Pacific brand lowfat vanilla almond mylk which is available at Whole Foods Market, Wild Oats, Trader Joe's and various other stores. We use it in baked goods, for hot chocolate, and on cold cereal. It's much better cold than room temperature IMO. He hates granola bars or oatmeal. *I hate oatmeal, too. :-P Probably just as well since according to some, oats contain gluten. One can buy quinoa flakes which can be used in some recipes in place of oatmeal. We make our own gluten-free, vegan muffins, bread, and pancakes. Trader Joe's sells good GF/dairy-free frozen waffles (we like theirs better than Van's brand). Nature's Path makes Mesa Sunrise and buckwheat blueberry ones, good but expensive so we typically only buy those on sale. Nature's Path also makes Mesa Sunrise cereal which we like. Has anyone actually visited any well known doctor for help? I am willing to sell everything to get help as soon as possible for him. *The diet is not that complicated once you clean out your kitchen, learn to read labels, and notice the benefits. Some stores like WFM and TJs have listings on their websites or brochures in their stores indicating the GF and maybe the dairy-free products they carry. Other good books are the Seroussi one and one by . thanks so much! _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web! Guest guest
Don't allow a " challenge " as it involves a single high dose of chelator which risk pushing more mercury into the brain and doesn't provide useful info. It's important that you educate yourself about Andy's protocol, the reasoning behind it and the counting rules before you see a DAN! (if you choose to see one). Guest guest
I haven't heard of any psychiatirst using ECT's as the first line of defense against depression. I would suggest the possibility of finding another doc who uses pharmacology to find a good anti-depressant med for you. There are many and in my experience they have no real side effects when mixed with other meds. I use Effexor and have done so for years. L [ ] Help, please! Hello all, I do not write often but still try to read everything. I am on AMN107 and on my last visit was told that I am in remission, SUPER NEWS! My problem is not one that I have seen much about, all the meds have combined and given my a special gift...a deep depression. I now have added a psychiatrist to my cast of characters. She advised that I try ECT's and against my better judgment, I agreed. ECT, bye the way, stands for Electro-Convulsive Therapy. Yes good old electric shock treatment. I was to have 12 but could only stand 10. I have wicked headaches, which are supposed to stop in time, in time for what is my question? Probably the most disturbing side effect is memory loss, I find this very disturbing, not remembering things that I have done or places I have been. Perhaps the worst is not being able to remember a word that I want to use when talking. Having been a salesman for over 40 years, talking was how I made my living! Thanks for reading my rant and anyone who has experienced this I would be grateful to hear about your experiences. Best regards, Terry
Guest guest
Hi Terry, How long have you been on AMN107 (Tasigna)? And how much do you take? I have been on it for 6 months without any side effects. I started with 400mg and am now on 600mg because I was not quite in remission (0.032%) I sometimes wonder why some people get side effects and other do not. I had terrible side effects with gleevec and sprycel. Just interested in how long and how much ??? Guest guest
First O!!! YIPPEEE!!! Number 1209 in the Zero Club Zavie Hi Terry, My mom suffered from depression and she would have ECTs done on a regular basis (1-2 times a year). Each time I would confront the doctors telling them what I thought about the treatment (barbaric was my adjective). Their response was always the same. It is the last option they try when all the drugs fail. They assured me that the procedure was painless. And like your experience there was memory loss each time they did the procedure. I would push her to try new drugs to avoid the ECT. Guest guest
Hi Zavie, I am glad to be #1209! I didn't make myself real clear about the ECT's, they were a last resort after none of the meds seemed to help with the depression. Did your Mother's memory return? I find it is the small things that scare me the most, not being able to fire out the DVD player or remember going somewhere or doing something. Thank you for your reply and making my #1209 official!
