Thanks for the encouragement! I was curious, have others had the experience

of " herxing " on other antibiotics, when using them for other routine

infections? Seems that could be a problem then, too.

Actually, I would be interested, but don't want you to go to excessive

effort. So, if it is not too much trouble, please do. No hurry.

The reason I asked that question is that I have had a few courses of

antibiotics recently, with no flare of my joint symptoms. In fact, a week's

worth of Cipro or Septra will give me noticeable relief, but it does not

last much beyond the drug therapy.

So. I'm hopeful I will not have a herx reaction. Not everyone does, right?

a Carnes replies:

Hi, I am jumping in the middle of someone else's coversation, but just want

to respond to the above based on my experience. If you have a mycoplasma

infection, a week of Cipro would just be treating the tip of the iceberg.

IT would take many months of cipro to make a dent in the infection. The

fact that you show some improvement in symptoms in a week is an excellent

sign. Why don't you take the antibiotic longer?

>

> So. I'm hopeful I will not have a herx reaction. Not everyone does, right?

a C replies:

No, not everyone does. I have never had one. I just slowly improve. But

I still relapse when I stop the antibiotic even after 3 years. I have been

on Zithromax most of that time. I am now maintaining on half the dose I

started with, but only with vitamins and supplements and rest.

The reasons I am NOT trying Cipro for arthritis at this time are:

(1) Expense, especially for a long-term course of treatment

(2) Track record of safety for minocycline in long-term use for other

conditions (my doc is a sports med physician, with a background in general

practice, and has used it for acne with patients in the past)

(3) Recent research trials have been with minocycline (MIRA and others) and

postulated efficacy is due to other specific properties of minocycline, esp.

possible immuno-modulatory and anti-inflammatory effects besides or in

addition to anti-microbial effects

(4) Arthritis Foundation's qualified endorsement of minocycline as a DMARD

(5) Experience that other antibiotics in addition to Cipro help me

> Hi all! I just wanted you all to know I got the better job! Pays

more, straight days, no weekends or holidays!! That means.. I'm

coming to all the events!! There was really nothing I liked about

the airport job except possibly the travel, but that is so little

compared to having to do the job day in day out.. or should I say

night in night out plus weekends and holidays. If i didn't have a

life, of course, but I DO have a life!! I am so happy!! NOw all I

have to do is prove myself on the job! Oh, it is an Orderly position

at Fairfax Surgical Center. Not a hard job, not AS labor intensive

as the airport, but will keep me on my toes.

I got my disability approval today. I'm amazed. I have no idea what

the doctors said but I'm glad. Just had to share my good news.

Hi All,

Thanks for responding to my No One Posting? message. We're all back in touch.

Think, in retrospect that it was just a quiet day and no one WAS posting! :)

Cheers!
