Guest guest
I've composted for 25 years but I'm not an expert. You can find people at the Living Green Expo to quiz about your question. My personal experience is that I don't want the " energy " of that kind of office trash in my compost. It's probably OK technically since it's all hydrocarbon chain, but I like leaves, grass clippings and garbage. If I were to shred paper I'd keep the content very low, like below 10%. Fortunately, there are excellent recycling opportunities for all sorts of paper. I'd send it there and have nice " earthy " looking compost. Composting is a godsend and one of the most important things city dwellers can do to radically cut down their waste stream and improve their patch of God's earth. Guest guest
I don't use those products in my compost for a couple of reasons... One is that even if the ink is not toxic, can you imagine the chemicals it must take to make a tree white? I just don't trust the process enough to eat it! Since those things are recylable, I just use that route. The other is that I have no trouble filling up my (3) compost bins with more " organic " materials. It seems that they are always full! Happy Composting! Kathy
Guest guest
Just make sure the pile is big enough or it won't heat up properly. Hennepin County offers these black plastic compost bins for $15 but they are too small and the pile just sits there. Even with composting starters, it's a slower process than it should be. ~Joe
