[ ] RE: can iron pills work while on Gleevec?

Dear Friends,

Does anyone ever have a problem with the lack of iron while taking Gleevec?

I am a vegetarian, who won't eat any meat! And I was wondering is it safe

to take iron pills with Gleevec?

I feel tired, but not the tiredness that comes from sleeping. I just seem to

lack

energy to do the things, I love to recreate with my kids.

I recently read something on Internet which told me that a cnyono-cobalmin

produces

poison and or is a toxic that some manufacturers place in our vitamins. Then

if you find

a hydroxy-cobalamin, this would be better. Anyone on B'Complexes, using B-12,

and or iron in there supplements?

Yes, I took iron supplements for 3 years without any problem and with

my ONC's recommendation. I have been battling Iron Defiecent Anemia

during my 5 1/2 years CML treatments. I had to stop taking the extra

iron pill when I started transfusions because of low RBC and

Hemoglobin. The iron was not giving the boost it was supposed to.

Be cautious in taking extra iron and check the side effects when you

are taking too much. Since I am a " senior citizen " , I am also taking

Cemtrum Silver (daily vitiman supplement that includes iron.) I had

side effects that included loose bowels. I tried blaming Gleevec but

it went away when I stopped the extra iron pill. This was all over

the counter because the rx was way too much with everything else that

was giving me iron supplement.

How weird that meds effect different people in different ways;  I take 975 mg

iron )ferrous sulphate) a day, and have the opposite problem, diarrhea.  I take

Metamucil and Colace to offset this, but they don't help much.  Always

something, .bobby
