Guest guest
Wow great tip. Thanks for sharing. I agree. Goes bad before I can finish it. This appealed to me because to buy the larger package is much more economical but I have spoilage before I finish it. Well, I came home, put the Spinach into the freezer and voila! The next morning when I wanted to make my first green smoothie I got out the Spinach. It was frozen, not sticking together, breaks like potato chips and works very well in the smoothie. Guest guest
I do this too. Being I make smoothies for a lot of people, they all bring big bags. I just make sure the bags are still sealed and drop them in my deep freeze. After I've opened them, I fold the bag over right and seal it with a piece of tape and back in the freezer it goes. Guest guest
Thanks for the tip!! I usually use one bag a week, but by the end of the week it's beginning to get slimey. Guest guest
I also buy the 40 0z pkg, put it in a ziplock bag and put in the freezer. Some people think to be strong is to never feel pain. In reality, the strongest people are the ones who feel it, understand it, accept and learn from it. Guest guest
I freeze many of my smoothie ingredients, greens and fruits/berries. Celery, peppers, blueberries, strawberries all freeze well for smoothies. I've had the same issue with stuff going bad before I can get to it. I think I would try a couple of leaves overnight and see what they look like in the morning.
Guest guest
I just learned this neat trick as well. The other day I was at the store and noticed they had marked down a lot of organic pre packaged greens that had a few days until their expiration date. I bought a bunch of it and froze it for my smoothies. It was a great find! Guest guest
Are you washing your spinach BEFORE freezing, or after? Curious. Thanks. Guest guest
It would have to be prewashed before freezing as if you thaw out the frozen spinach it will turn into soft mush.It only stays whole if it is frozen hard. Guest guest
So how long does it stay useable when frozen? We have found that they have a great price on organic baby spinach at Cash and Carry stores but it comes in a huge container double the size of Costco containers. > > Yes I do the same for the kale.  I remove the stem, put in a ziplock and freeze.  Break off what I want in my smoothie when I want it.  Gab >  > > > Some people think to be strong is to never feel pain. In reality, the strongest people are the ones who feel it, understand it, accept and learn from it. > > > ________________________________ > From: Donnamarie <doesho1@...> > " " < > > Sent: Saturday, July 21, 2012 7:40 PM > Subject: Re: Tip about Spinach and storage.spoilage > > >  > Can you freeze Kale as well? > > Donna > Sent from my iPad >
