Guest guest
Hello ,Not fine enough for baking (I have Bob's Red Mill Almond Flour and compared to that what comes out of a dry container is more like an Almond Meal). There is too much moisture (natural oil) in the raw almonds to get the consistency of the Almond "Flour" that I've purchased at the store. Wonder how they make it :-) Blessings,Lea Ann SavageSatellite Beach, FL(321) 773-7088 (home)(321-961-9219 (cell)www.BlenderLady.com(AKA the Vitamix Lady :-)<))>< On May 19, 2012, at 4:03 PM, Swigart wrote: With the dry container, how fine can I get almond flour? Guest guest
The only way you will get a finer flour from almonds is to dehydrate the almonds first-a long process. Otherwise, almonds contain too much oil and will process more like a meal (like cornmeal) than an actual flour. If you dehydrate the almonds, it will draw a lot of the oil to the surface during the dehydrating process, which you will need to continuously dab off the surface-takes a couple of days even with a top notch dehdyrator like the Excalibur, but worth it if you don't mind the time and tedious process. The almond meal that can be readily done in the Vitamix is a great ADDITION to other flours, but won't work well as a stand alone flour. > > With the dry container, how fine can I get almond flour? > > Suitable for baking ? Guest guest
That's good information about dehydrating the nuts first. Would you soak the almonds overnight first and then dehydrate from there? Even if it is just for anti-nutrient reduction. Also, I found this info about making almond flour at home... She made a direct comparison to Honeywell Almond Flour which is supposedly the best, especially according to Elana's Pantry who did the whole Almond Flour cookbook. http://www.lexieskitchen.com/tipsandreviews/2010/5/17/how-to-make-almond-flour.htmlTJ
