Guest guest
I have put cooked beans in my smoothies many times. I put 1/3 c. white beans in for creaminess and you can't taste them at all. If so, what kinds of beans? Does it alter the taste? What are some things I could do with ground beans? Any thoughts, ideas would be appreciated! Guest guest
Jodi, Do you cook the beans yourself, or used canned? I have the same problem with beans as Kathleen... the texture. But it's such a great protein source I'd love to be able to incorporate them.. but don't know how. Guest guest
Crystal, I've used both. Home cooked beans taste much better than canned, but in a smoothie, it doesn't matter, unless you're watching your salt intake. You can look for salt free beans or rinse really well. Guest guest
OK, I added some canned White beans...I finally found some with no salt. The selection was limited. First, it was all I could do to open the can and put them in a container without gagging! Then, I added about 1/3 - 1/2 cup in my smoothie this morning. (Holding my breath!) Bottom line: I cannot taste them in there. BUT, I feel like a child - I KNOW they are in there, so I am imgaining that I can sense them, if you know what I mean. It is all mental. I am going to give a little of the smoothie to a co-worker this morning and get an honest opinion if he can taste the beans. But, I am SO excited that I can add protein " naturally " !! THANKS! Guest guest
Update on the beans in the smoothie...now that I finished the entire cup...while I still feel that I cannot truly " taste " it, there is a different texture. I made my " favorite " smoothie so the beans would be the only change. Yes, there is a different slight (very slight) after-taste and definitely a " chalky " texture. As far as the Quinoa - I just discovered it and lOVE it! I have been eating it with about 2-3 meals a week already so I don't want to " burn " it out. Maybe I can add my leftover quinoa to my breakfast smoothie...hadn't thought of it. But, yes, the quinoa is VERY easy to make - just as easy as rice. I don't know where it has been all my life! THANKS! > > > > > > > >> > > > >> I absolutely cannot stand beans. Guest guest
Hmmm...I don't notice a chalky texture at all. If anything, my smoothies are creamier. I don't put in more than 1/3 c., though and I prefer white beans because they have the mildest taste, so aren't detectable in my smoothie. Maybe you could try cooking your own beans. They're much smoother and creamier. I always say they taste buttery, compared to canned beans. Plus, they're cheaper!JodiSent from my iPhoneOn Jul 16, 2012, at 7:59 AM, "koffeekam" <kmcdonald24@...> wrote: Update on the beans in the smoothie...now that I finished the entire cup...while I still feel that I cannot truly "taste" it, there is a different texture. Guest guest
Another good source of protein is chia seeds...and you don't even have to cook them...just dump a tablespoon or so in your smoothie. Guest guest
I added about 1/2 cup of beans yesterday, so maybe that was too much! I could NOT NOT NOT bring myself to add any to today's smoothie. I added a little leftover quinoa. I bought some bags of dry beans yesterday and am going to try cooking those. I bought bags of navy beans and some barley. The ones I tried in a can were " butter " which apparently contain lima beans. Even my husband (who likes beans) wouldn't eat them. He seemed to approve of the Navy beans and thinks I'll like them better. Thanks! Kathleen > > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > >> I absolutely cannot stand beans. Guest guest
Navy beans shouldn't be a problem. I use Great Northerns myself.
