Hi - another newbie (well sort of) here. I've been

making soaps and other goodies for a couple of years

now and I love the info I've been getting from this

list. I'm looking for a recipe for hair conditioner.

I've come up with a shampoo I love, but would like to

make a conditioner to match. Any ideas?

I have no experience of actually doing this but what about coconut oil

or olive oil?

Would it be better not to use anything on her hair at all then the

shampoo wouldn't dry it out? That's what I've always done for my son -

we only use water.

Natasha McBride says egg whites make a good shampoo. We tried

this a couple of times and liked the results. Not sure if it would help

with the dryness.

I use egg yolks. It foams up just like shampoo and leaves hair really soft :))

I love the miessence range of organic products and their shampoos and conditioners are really good no nasties in them and the extra bonus of Australian Bush essences too.

We also have found the Avalon range or organic shampoos and conditioners good- the lemon is really lovely as is the lavender and the tea tree is good to get rid of the little critters head lice too.

We stopped using Earth friendly stuff as it either had SLS in it or Propylene Glycol or isopropyl alcohol which trigger dds seizures too...

The Mi essence body wash is really good too- it is made from sunflower extracts.

Hope this helps

Olive oil is good but mustard seed oil is phenomenal. Just massage a couple of

teaspoons into the hair and leave for half an hour and then wash off. You will

need shampoo though. The latter doesn't smell good when applied, but rest

assured, you will notice the difference immediately. SOme people mix egg whites

with the oil. Very good for conditioning.

NOt 100%, but think -McBride suggests egg yolks, not whites. I would

imagine the heat would cause the whites to coagulate.

Hi Tracey,

Thanks for your reply. Could I please ask you to send me the links of where you

buy these products from? I've found both Miessence & Avalon's websites but they

are in the US.

Many thanks

Sara, Are you sure it was egg whites and not egg yolks? I have washed my hair

with egg yolk before (do not rinse with HOT water!)and the reason this works is

that the yolk contains lecithin which presumably emulsifies the grease in the

hair.

no not sure!

My notes say egg whites but someone else said it must be yolks. I think

it's probably yolks.
