Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I don't post often but I have been reading the site for the five years since my husband was diagnosed with CML. My question has to do with the results of a recent blood test he got. He had been coughing for about 4 weeks after a cold he got and did not respond to antibiotics or other treatments. Eventually the cough resolved itself but his internist wanted to check his immunoglobulin levels in addition to the usual stuff. Jim waited a while and finally had it done late last week. The results showed that two of his immunoglobulins were in fact low. My question is whether anyone else has had their immunoglobulins measured and found them low. Also, is this significant and perhaps an indication of some other problem? Many thanks for your thoughts, Adrienne
Guest guest
Hi Adrienne, Immunoglobulins are not really related to CML. They are basically antibodies which are found in the lymphocyte cell line, usually associated with various pathogens (viruses, bacteria etc) so for those of us with plain ol' CML, there would be no reason to look at immunoglobulins. I suspect that Jim's doctor was investigating the cough rather than looking into the CML as the immunoglobulin test is irrelevant to his CML. As for the low finding, this could really mean anything. I guess your best bet is to ask his doctor what significance the findings are, if any at all.
