The current issues of AARP Bulletin has an interesting article around a question

" How Much Would you Pay for a Better Life "  for those taking expensive drugs such

as Gleevec.

It tells about " a bipartisan bill in Congress, the Access to Life-Saving

Medicine Act, would give the US Food and Drug Administration the authority to

approve safe copies of biologics. Many groups, including AARP and the generic

drug industry, support the bill. "

Dear Tracey,

Thanks for that web site. I looked up Cipro and here is part of what I found:

Aug 14, 2008 | Waichman Alonso LLP

" Overuse of antibiotics like Cipro and amoxicillan result in serious reactions

that send more than 140,000 people to emergency rooms every year. Those starting

statistics provide yet another reason for doctors to limit their use of the

drugs. The findings are part of a new study on antibiotic reactions in the U.S. -

the first of its kind -conducted by the Centers or Disease Control (CDC). "

Something else crossed my mind, what about the trial drugs, the drug companies

are not very transparent in that regard, so the pharmacist wouldn't know.

Gleevec is an approved drug and it would seem that information would be easier

to find on it.

Blessings,

Lottie
