Guest guest
Wow! I've never thought to use my machine for this. We have been just using plain vinegar and hot water, which does the job nicely and w/out chemicals but it doesn't smell the best for that day. Does anyone have a good recipe for toilet bowl cleaner? I switched to seventh generation about 1 1/2 yrs ago and I'm not happy w/it and it doesn't do much to remove hard water stains. Its not as bright as when I used to use comet. Thanks! > > I have used this for years, but only thought to post after doing it today. I toss a whole large lemon, peels, seeds and all, into the Vitamix, add hot water up to about the half way mark, a good healthy pinch of sea salt and another of baking soda, splash of peroxde and few drops of grapefruit seed extract. . I buzz it up until it is all nice and foamy, then pour it into a gallon jug and top that up with water. I use it in my carpet steamer machine for AMAZING results. Today, I threw in a sprig of lavender from my garden and it smells amazing in my house. You can add a drop of essential oil, if desired. I also use this to mop my floors, clean toilets, etc. You can also put it in a spray bottle for kitchen/bathroom use. Thought I would share. > > >

Guest guest
I asked husband, our personal amateur chemist and he says, you might get better use of the peroxide if you mixed it in after VM'ing the rest as the spinning will oxidize the peroxide, making it less effective. Also, peroxide left in any container that does not exclude light, quickly degrades the peroxide. The overall mixture sounded interesting to him, but he had those comments for you. Guest guest
, You may be able to help me with a home remedy. I had an inside cat for years. About 2 years ago he became an outside cat after I figured out the awful smell in my couch and loveseat was him spraying them. I've tried everything from steaming, fogging, oils and baking soda and vinegar. Most the smell is gone but in the wood beneath the recliners on each end you can still get a strong whiff occasionally and I can't thing of anything more to do. The furniture looks brand new still and I am not able, nor do I want to buy a new set ha. Do you have any ideas of what I may can buzz up or buy that will help. It seems to be worse when it gets warm in the house and being that's where I lay/sit 90% of my time it makes me nauseated. Any ideas? I figured if anyone would know, it'd be you, Mrs. Bonnie or Lea Ann. Thanks in advance, And this to shall pass; He brings things to pass not to stay! Guest guest
Hi, . The recipe I just posted will help, due to the oils in the lemon, but leave out the peroxide so it doesn't harm your furniture. Another way to get smells out, it to soak a large old sheet in lemon/baking soda water-you want it good and wet, but not soaking wet or dripping. Lay that on or over your problem areas and leave it on overnight. Remove is in the morning and aim a fan at any dampness-you may have to do this a time or two, but it should get most of the odor out. I had to do this with a sofa that had picked up a musty smell in storage-worked great. Good luck! > > , > You may be able to help me with a home remedy. I had an inside cat for years. Guest guest
I just pour it in-straining isn't a bad idea, but I have been using the same carpet cleaner and solution for probably 10 years or so-doesn't seem to have harmed my machine any. If I WERE to strain it, I would just pour it through a jelly bag. Not a bad idea, actually. > > > > I use it in my carpet steamer machine > , do you strain the mixture before putting it in the steamer > reservoir? Guest guest
I haven't strained it, but might start (then again, I might stay lazy, lol) A gallon lasts me a good long while, unless I am carpet cleaning, then I go through it pretty fast. The peroxide, lemon and salt are all natural " preservatives " , so I doubt it would go bad over time. > > how long would a batch of this last and do you need to strain it at all ? > > > > Vitamix carpet cleaner > > > > > > I have used this for years, but only thought to post after doing it today. Guest guest
I use the mixture I posted to spray my toilets down nightly (I spray all the faucets, doorknobs, remote controls and toilets before bed everynight-only takes seconds) For a " gel " type toilet cleaner that will adhere to the bowl for a good cleaning, cook up some tapioca, chia seed, or flax until it " gels " , then mix up a whole lemon, the gel, and some peroxide (I use food grade-much stronger than the regular kind) and some baking soda and sea salt in the Vitamix. I keep mine in one of those ketchup squirt bottles you can get at the dollar store (hair color applicators from Sally's beauty supply work great too) Just squirt the gel up under the bowl, let sit, then brush it=workds great, no chemicals! Just a side note-tapioca, flax, or chia gel all work great as a hair gel too! > > > > I have used this for years, but only thought to post after doing it today. Guest guest
I get food grade peroxide from the health food store. Regular peroxide is 3%, food grade is 35%, so it is VERY strong-needs to be diluted, and WILL stain if not diluted. Much easier to make a stronger solution though. You can use regular peroxide, it just won't be as strong. > > where do you get food grade peroxide? > > > > > Re: Vitamix carpet cleaner > > > > > > I
Guest guest
I am finding this line of discussion so interesting. Today hubby found on Amazon Prime movies and movie called something like Chem-ercial. It was all about toxic chemicals used in the house and a family who was convinced to do the video by tossing all their household chemicals and replacing with home made recipes. It was quite interesting. Velda On 6/2/2012 6:01 PM, wrote: > Hi, . The recipe I just posted will help, due to the oils in the lemon, but leave out the peroxide so it doesn't harm your furniture. Guest guest
Aloha, I'm not , but I do have a cat. (She's 19. At one point I had six cats!) The best thing I have found to get cat urine smell out of things is called Nok Out odor eliminator. I found it online years ago and use it frequently. It doesn't stain or smell like anything. Just leaves the air no longer smelling like cat. Good luck with whatever you try. Aloha, mirthfullady > > , > You may be able to help me with a home remedy. I had an inside cat for years. I figured if anyone would know, it'd be you, Mrs. Bonnie or Lea Ann. > Thanks in advance, > > > And this to shall pass; He brings things to pass not to stay! > > > Sent with Verizon Mobile Email > > --- Original Message --- > > From: <berrywell@...> > Sent: June 2, 2012 6/2/12 > > Subject: Vitamix carpet cleaner > >  > > I have used this for years, but only thought to post after doing it today. > > > > > > > > > > TODAY(Beta) • Powered by The 'crazy thing' one man did for love > > > Get Search App! • Privacy Policy >
Guest guest
I have a question because food grade is much stronger may I ask what they use it for. Not food I hope? From: <berrywell@...> Sent: Saturday, June 2, 2012 10:15 PM Subject: Re: Vitamix carpet cleaner I get food grade peroxide from the health food store. Regular peroxide is 3%, food grade is 35%, so it is VERY strong-needs to be diluted, and WILL stain if not diluted. Much easier to make a stronger solution though. You can use regular peroxide, it just won't be as strong. > > where do you get food grade peroxide? > > > > > Re: Vitamix carpet cleaner > > > > > > I
Guest guest
I use it mainly to sanitize things in my kitchen, rather than using bleach or other harsher chemicals and cleansers. I am allergic to chlorine bleach, so this is the alternative for me. > > > > where do you get food grade peroxide? > > > > > > > > > > Re: Vitamix carpet cleaner > > > > > > > > > > > > I >
Guest guest
It is really rather shocking the amount of chemicals most of us ingest in one form or another on any given day, be it in foods or household goods, cleansers, etc. My chronic allergies forced me to find alternatives years ago, and I am so glad I did! I prefer using things I can actually pronounce or identify, and it is SO much cheaper to use natural common kitchen staples for cleaning, disinfecting, etc. I like that nothing I clean with has a warning label on it, and if absorbed through my skin or splashed in my eyes won't cause me any harm Sent from my iPad On Jun 3, 2012, at 4:28 AM, Velda <solomon@...> wrote: > I am finding this line of discussion so interesting. Guest guest
That does sound interesting. I need to clean my carpets and was looking for alternative cleaners. I'm tired of paying those high prices for carpet shampoos. And honestly they leave so much sticky shampoo in the carpet. Guest guest
Thanks for posting. Very interesting. I don't have a machine, but I'll bet I could use this to clean my rugs. Janet
