Hi Jill,

This weight gain problem comes up now and again with someone on the list and

always gets responses from others. I decided we should really try to get to the

bottom of it this time.

I don't think it's our fault! Even if the weight gain is partially my fault for

whatever little treat reasons, the fact that I can't take it off certainly is

through no fault of my own. I doubt that colas is your problem either!

Let's see what BMS has to say. Also, someone could ask Novaartis the same

questions. I also had the problem on Gleevec until I lost my response to that

drug.

We seem to have enough anecdotal experience to ask these questions.

Stay in touch with us! Some other good diuretics are watermelon and Crystal

Light drinks which seem to irritate the bladder.

Good luck!

[ ] salt substitute/weight gain

I have been following the weight gain thread with interest as the

scale keeps rising even though I am trying to watch what I eat and

walking a ton (we have 4 dogs that need to be exercised A LOT). This

has always worked in the past but no longer. I know I have water

retention as my ankles feel like weights on the bottom of my legs

sometimes. I am on 400 mg of gleevec and have been since Feb 2008.

I eat very little sodium though and haven't for years because of my

husband's diabetes and high blood pressure. He has never liked the

salt substitute. We have a very extensive spice cabinet and use a

lot of different spices such as garlic powder, a mixture of garlic

and herbs (Mrs. Dash makes it), basil, Italian seasoning and so on.

My children don't really know what salt tastes like!! You might try

this instead of the salt substitute.

So the salt thing won't help me. Someone told me to drink a lot of

water to help lose the fluid so I have been trying. I think my one

downfall is cola (diet drinks don't agree with me and I don't like

them anyway). It is a godsend when I feel very nauseous.

Hope this helps and I will keep following weight tips from others.

It is driving me bonkers even though I would never give up my gleevec

because of the weight.
