Guest guest
Hi, I would be interested if the price is right and would like to know what kind of containers they are. I'am going to try and make some lotions and bug sprays. Please keep me in mine. TIA Sharon With quantities like that the prices should be really low. I may be interested, depending on the type of bottles decided on. Just thought I would drop a note to let you know interest. Guest guest
> We brew in a 19 liter Italian beverage jar with a spigot. What is the top like? I mean is it a jar, or is it more like a bottle? Where do you get those things? (even w/o the spigot?) michael.
Guest guest
The Container Store, either online or in their retail locations has some glass containers that wd be excellent for brewing. I have a continuous brew in an opaque white lead-free crock with a spigot. This is aesthetically pleasing and acceptable to my grownup children who come to my house and taunt me about the blob in the jar. The scoby inside is layered about 4 " thick and not very pretty. Kombucha also grows stringy looking " ooglies " that some may find unattractive. But my kombucha is delish! Anita
Guest guest
Maybe it is just the beginner exitement but I love the glass jar. I find myself in front of the jar several times a day just admiring what is going on in there. It is true though that the rest of my family is making remarks about the unattractive look but they have to admit that the taste is delicious (even my husband who wouldn't touch my kefir...). I think with a crock I would miss a lot of the activity that's going on in there. Regine (in Texas) I have a continuous brew in an opaque white lead-free > crock with a spigot. The colours used will be dye-based, and lead is an expensive additive to glass (q.v. " lead crystal " ). I find it highly unlikely that Chinese manufacturers would add lead to their glass when the cheapest way to add strength is to add thickness (which is why most of those jars are so thick). Personally, I went with the $3 one at BigLots, which you may or may not have where you live.
Guest guest
You could always visit the local hardware store and get a lead detection kit. They are very easy to use. They will give you a go or no go reason to buy or not buy the jar. I guess you could buy the lead detect kit and use it right in the store...then buy or not buy....then you would know and not always wonder...personally, I want to test and know for sure. My glass jug may be different from yours.. With the acid in our KT, it would suck up the lead fast I would think! Remember a few years ago, many warnings about making lemonade/acidic drinks in crockery jugs.... same thing. Be safe but make your own decisions. Guest guest
The two I just bought arrived today. I WILL be testing mine. I will let you know but...don't assume that mine are the same glass as yours. They are NOT made in the US. I did however pay a little more for mine but they came packed extremely well, unbroken/un-damaged. They are big....
