I can't answer your question but one thing I have noticed about is, for some reason, when you post a message, it goes to the group and we all see it but it doesn't go to you, so you don't see it.  You can verify that your message went to the group by logging on to the and look there.  If you see it on the web site then you can know that it went out to the rest of the members.  I hope that makes sense.

Your friend might check ebay or craigs list to see if she can find a VM at a price she can afford.

Hi everyone!

My name is and I've been lurking here for a couple months learning from

you all after purchasing my new and beloved vitamix. My question is for a

friend of mine.

My friend has a 2 1/2 year old little boy with Cystic Fibrosis. She constantly

struggles to get enough calories and nutrients in his little body and is trying

to avoid tube feedings if possible. She thought making high calorie,

nutrient-dense smoothies would be great for him. She was talking about getting

a Ninja and I told her about the vitamix. She is very interested but worried

about the cost with all of her liitle boy's medical bills and being that she has

three other children.

I thought I heard someone talk about a medical discount for the vitamix. Can

anyone tell me if she could get this and how much it would cost in the end? Any

and all details would be great so that I may pass it on to her! Thank you so

much!

Hello ,I meant to reply to this the first time - got sidetracked and never got back to it - my apologies! The only way to get a medical discount is for her to get a note from her doctor indicating that it would benefit the child and submit that doctor's note to Vitamix (I'd call Vitamix Customer Service in order to get the name and contact information of the person at the home office who would handle this request).I see that Bonnie did the legwork in her reply (Thank you Bonnie!) - I'm going to copy that here so I can link to this post for future reference:=============================================Begin forwarded message:From: "Bonnie " <bonniesherbals@...>,I thought I would give vitamix a call to find out about the medical needs question you have (I am also a vitamix dealer and was interested). You can have your friend call JP at ext. 2303 at vitamix 800-848-2649 and they can get her a reconditioned machine with an additional discount tacked on – it is direct with vitamix, no dealers are involved.Bonnie The Busy Person's Wellness ExpertRadiant Health For Life In Less Than 10 Minutes A Daywww.bonniesherbals.com=============================================Additionally, for anyone on a feeding tube - this is a great resource: http://blenderizeddiet.com/

,

I remember reading that Vitamix did have a medical discount program. I would

call and ask the requirements. I just googled Vitamix Medical discount and

found this:

http://lucysrealfood.com/resources%20and%20links.htm

I don't know how old the information is so it might be different.

Hi ,I don't know about the medical discount, but I may be able to help with reguard to getting nutrients into her Son.My Sister has cancer she dropped down under 100 lbs.I got her a Ninja, picked up some high protien powders (Chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry) at a sports health food store (They have much more protien). Also picked up chocolate ice cream, frozen strawberries, frozen peaches, half and half, and yogurt, to add to the protien powder. It sure perked her up. Her bloodwork im-proved, and she gained 12 lbs. in 6 weeks. I don't doubt, for a second, the VitaMix is a better choice. But if she's financially strapped, and her Son needs this now,I'd say the Ninja will do. qvc.com has them, sometimes on amonthly payment plan, called easy pay. Hi -

Your friend could contact the Intermediate Unit, early intervention or school in her area. Many times they have programs that designate funds for children who are in need of things they cannot afford, ie shoes, coats, walkers, standing frames, weighted vests, braces, etc. In PA at the Intermediate Unit I work for it's called Champions for Children. She could call around and see if there was a similar program that would consider purchasing a vitamix for her to help with her son's nutrition, especially if there is a physician's script for it.

Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your responses. I will pass all the information to my

friend and let her decide how to proceed.
