Hello All,

Excerpted from an " alternative " heath newsleter that I recieve....

Recently, something puzzling happened. I made a copy of Chopin's

concerto in C-minor from my hi-fi to a neighbor's little tape

recorder. I thought nothing of it until Louise, 74, mentioned

that her severe arthritic pain almost vanished when she listened

to it through her Walkman.

At first I assumed there was some magic within the composition.

I asked her to use my master copy. It didn't work! I wondered

how this can be. I took both cassettes to a sound laboratory.

Voila! On a dual trace oscilloscope it became obvious. Her

tape had additional audio which must have been a result of some

strange feedback when I made the copy. It was above 30,000 Hertz,

far above our hearing range.

To confirm this I quickly built a low pass audio filter with

a very sharp cutoff at 20,000 Hertz. Louise still believed that

it helped but not as well as the original. Then we made a hi

pass audio filter which only passed frequencies above 25,000

Hertz. Louise couldn't hear anything although she said it seemed

to help . . . a little.

When Louise listens through speakers the efficacy is reduced.

Thus far we have not been able to understand exactly what is

happening. I loaned the " Louise " tape to Herman, 69. I just

asked him to listen to it through a Walkman. I wanted to avoid

any placebo effect. I said nothing about any pain benefits.

Herman volunteered that it reduced his arthritic pain.

Don't get carried away as this proves nothing. However, we find

it very interesting. Should we be able to determine, scientifically,

that the tape really works, we will make the audio file available

on our website. Stay tuned. >>
