Didn't the recipe have rosewater in it? That's water! Hydrosols are

water, so it would need to be preserved for long-term storage, I would think.

Oh, sorry I didn't specify. This is an anti-wrinkle

lotion recipe. I want to make it for gifts for my mom,

aunt, grandmother, and some for myself =) But I want

to put a preservative in it for my aunt and

grandmother, because they live in other states and

can't have it made fresh every time.

Thanks,

Amber

Hi,

Nope, I listed all the ingredients specified. I want

to try it out to see if it really works as an

" antiwrinkle lotion " , but I want to use a preservative

in it so I can send it to some family members.

Here's the link to where the recipe is at:

Holly,

Hi. Should I only use vitamin E even though it has

honey in it?

Thanks for the advice.

You are correct, they are not the same things. But bacteria will grow just

as readily in hydrosols as it will in tap water.

Ok, there are true hydrosols on the market which are the by-product of

steam-distillation of essential oils. Ideally, depending on how much of a

purist you are...these should not have preservatives added. They will keep

for several months if stored properly, ie, dark glass containers,

refridgerated. And you can always preserve the final product made with

them later. There are many on-line suppliers who sell these without

preservatives. You have to ask, cuz you don't know..

Then there are the " health food store " rose-water type " hydrosols " .

Sometimes these are true hydrosols, and they most likely will have a

preservative added, because they are mass-produced and transported and sold

and stored on shelf at room temp. Then there are *other* waters which are

sometimes called " floral waters " . These are nothing more than plain

water with some essential oils and dispersant added to dissolve the oils in

the water. These also will most likely have a preservative added.

And...they are not hydrosols. Just depends on what you are looking for.

For the " rosewaters " that DO have a preservative already added at

manufacture, I do not know if that preservative would be adequate to preserve

a final product made out of using the rosewater as an ingredient. But you

can't just say, oh it's rosewater, not water, so you don't need a

preservative. You need to know what kind of water you have, is it a true

hydrosol or does it have a preservative added, etc.

I buy a rose hydrosol from someone who lives in Turkey and he gets his

hydrosols direct from the distiller there! He says it's his best-selling

item. Oh, it makes me shiver to think they would throw that good stuff

away!!! And it smells.....heavenly. It's addictive.

Rose water is the same as any water just with rose otto in it to some small

degree. You would need some type of preservative in it. Contamination can

come from your hands and the water helps it grow.

I would think so. I would search phenonip and see if you can come up with

an info page. I know there are out there just not where. I use gambrel

plus.

Rose water is the end product of the distillation of the rose petals to get

rose otto the essential oil. In Turkey it is a throw away. I use a lot of

it in body sprays and hand creams. Good rose water does not smell very good

and has to be mixed with other things to get the effect that is nice.

I get mine from Butch too. He and were taking a shower in it when she

went out to visit him. I don't care for the smell straight out of the

bottle but I do like it mixed with other stuff.

Oh, wow, a shower. I'd never want to get out. As far as the

aroma...well, I guess it's just one of those cases of different strokes for

different folks. Lots of people rave about the aroma of ylang ylang, for

instance, and yuck, I used to hate it. I am gradually....veeeeery

gradually...acquiring a " taste " for it. I have found that no matter how

therapeutic an eo is, if I don't care for the aroma, it won't work for me. :)

Bast,

I take the rose petals and put them in a large canning jar, fill with

distilled water (not boiled) and add a splash of vodka. I leave them in the

jar for a month, putting the jar out in sunlight once a week. After 4 weeks,

I strain the rose petals out and voila, great rose water.

Hi Amber,

You should use the Phenonip in this recipe at around

..5 to 1% (I believe, but check manufactures web site

for complete advice!). Germaben is a good preservative

but it only works in O/W or W/O emulsions. I hope this

helps out! Unfortunately Vitamin E will only prolong

the shelf life of all oil recipes.
