I or the first time have nice long thicker nails than before

gleevec.I do however have a weird white spot on one nail.Looks like

it got bent or slammed in the door or something but isn't..A white

bruise..maybe..weird..

I have a red warm face almost all the day through.I chill and sweat

at the same time as well..My reddness is brightest immediately

following my taking Gleevec..My son will look at me and say " did you

just take your meds? " ..It is obvious..

I struggle with weight gain..I write everything down that goes into

my mouth.I count calories, protein, watch fats and carbs like a mad

woman.I now have a 10-15 pound float range depending on how much I am

retaining.I also take Lasix to help but itdoesn't help enough.I am

about 6 pounds above my lowest weight ever.

My skin is dry and I have like blister like spots here and

there.Red blister like things under the skin..Weird again..

My vision is not as good. I squint more now.My eyes are extremely

swollen.Worse in the morning and they weep and have crusty stuff now

and I never had that before gleevec.

IBS w/constipation but since gleevec I have bouts of Diarrhea out of

the blue not related to eating or not..

symptoms have come on since I have started gleevec as well.I am

exhausted all the time and ache all over the place. My daily narcotic

intake has increased since gleevec as well.

> Hi Vicki: You are having some real weird side effects alright.

I am also diabetic, but the only side effects I have had is the

Heartburn ( REFLUX), and I take Nexium for that. I am always cold, I

get cramping in my feet real bad sometimes. I have had visual

disturbances, and weight gain. I have dents in my fingernails, and

they say its a deficiency of some kind, and possibly from my

Parathyroid Disease which I also have. I just keep plugging along,

and being grateful. I know how you feel though. Everytime you turn

around something new is wrong. Take Care and I hope most of these

things clear up for you soon.

I could tell you from the onset of starting Gleevec some 4 years ago and only on

100mgs. that immediately I had these very tough looking toenails that were

very thicken by Gleevec. My skin got tougher, and the scaly aspect of the skin

was extremely dry. I wasn't too sure about the skin, because I was a great

power swimmer at the time, and since there are so many different chemicals

in swimming pools I thought it was due to the chlorine in the pool.

I would buy everything in the market place to add more moisture back into

the skin. At that time the infancy of Gleevec, they did not know much about

the side-effects and I had no one to speak regarding these effects.

I ended up not using a swimming pool due to severe skin problem. Had a horrible

rash, where my Primary kept insisting it was ezemca which it was not.

Then these little holes would ooze some type of liquids that when I scratch them

it would contagiously spread to other parts of the body. When I took a shower,

it had to be cool water and not a hot bathe. The rash was so bad,

it was on my lower back, my legs arms, and along different areas of the face.

My hands were very rough, along the center between my breast was a severe

rash, everywhere on my body that was a moist area turned into a tough itchy

skin exterior. It finally subsided after a year or 2 and while I went on a

medication to shrink the sores and lumps that itch me like CRAZY!

What you need to do is modify your diet, of intake of foods. The acid reflux

comes from too much gluten foods like dinner rolls, white flour, meat and cheese

products. Dairy was extremely a problem as well.

If I told you to take vitamin C the whole group would jump on me again, however

this works for me!

Subject: [ ] Weird Side Effects

Hi! Just checking in to see if anyone has noticed weird side effects

such as the following (Since they are driving me crazy lately):

1. Nail weirdness (fingers and toes). Both my big toenails fell

off. They did grow back, but they are weird now. My fingernail

cuticle area (where the " moon " is) is deformed -- not a moon anymore,

but more a moon with a tumor!

2. Vasomotor weirdness. My face is bright red all the time now.

Occasionally one of my ears turns bright red and gets very hot. I

sweat profusely many times per day. I chill and sweat at the same

time.

3. Weight gain. I am on other meds that could cause this (for

diabetes, high cholesterol, etc.), but just wonder about Gleevec.

4. Unusual skin problems. My arms are scaly and the skin peels off

in sheets. I soak up lotion like a sponge all over. Things take

forever to heal.

5. Difficulty with vision/excessive watering eyes.

6. Tummy pain. Excessive heartburn and acid reflux. Diarrhea.

Every single day.

I know a lot of these could be diabetes related too, but I had

diabetes before I had leukemia and it seems like they have come on

only since Gleevec.

Thanks for your feedback. I guess we're all in this together,

right! ?

I haven't gone through this thread entirely, but if it hasn't been

posted yet, this article may explain skin healing issues with Gleevec.

http://www.gistsupport.org/ask-the-professional/skin-related-side-effects-of-sun\

itinib.php

I started at 400mg about 2 years ago. Now I'm up to 800mg. All's well

except for my skin. Prior to Gleevec I had some facial flushing that

was due, in my opinion to steroid induced rosacea. After discontinuing

the steroid, my face just continued to get worse. My face is red and

burns almost all the time. I've been trying to get some relief from

Chinese medicine. No relief yet. Good luck.
