Hi Lottie:  You really made me start thinking, even though I am pretty careful.

I just got a message saying they are from , and that if I do not give them

all my information that I will lose my e-mail address etc.  I am not responding

to them.  Its also addressed to undisclosed Recipient.  If they wanted to update

my account then why wasn't it addressed to me.

We are all trying to do a good thing with our CML GROUP, and that really

got me aggravated.  You do not know who is legitimate or who is a hacker.  Lets

all just watch what we open up when it is sent to us.

Here is what I found on Snopes about Grouply. I don't think I like the idea that

they can take my information and change my email address for all . I

have several Anita's in my address book, but none but Anita W is in it. I have

no idea who this other Anita is. It reminds me of a web site I went to to get my

credit score and ended up with monthly charges for things I never agreed to buy.

My credit card company now has a fraud charge against them and they gave me a

new number. I wrote to the address the company gave me to protest and it was

returned that there was no such address. I do not belong to Facebook, My Space

or any other such group, I have heard of some people being targeted.

There are a few new services coming online which are social

" networking " sites similar to My Space and Facebook. One of these new

services is called " Grouply " . Grouply is tapping lists and

reposting the messages to Grouply members. As soon as ONE list member

joins this service, all of our messages will then be archived by

Grouply. Grouply changes your email address to (yourname)@grouply. com.

for the purpose of your list mail only. They will also go into

your account and change all of your preferences regarding how

you view your mail, whether you get individual posts or digests, and

whether you can be directly added to any of a million other .

In order to do this, Grouply requires that you give them your ID

and password. I am truly hoping that most of our members are smart

enough not to hand over that information to ANYONE--especially to

another web service! There is no guarantee that this information that

Grouply is aggregating is secure, thus leaving your sign-in info

available to spammers and hackers--including all of our list files and

photos.

At this point, there is no way for us to block Grouply's access to our

list (although that is being worked on). Until there is, I will be

checking daily for list members who may have innocently joined

Grouply. I will be unsubbing and banning them, plus making direct

contact with them explaining why we will not allow this in our

membership. They will be welcome to rejoin once they unsub from Grouply.

Blessings,

Lottie

Any email that says they need your information or you will be deleted, or

suspended or you will not be able to use your bank account or whatever is

fake. NEVER give out password information or even user name info!

Hey Everybody, the CMLERs2,

You can also use your Tools button, and click on *Clear private data, once

after your in your email inbox. This prevents a hacker from getting any of

your private data, or follows your trail of personal data.

I have found when I am looking into my emails from the group, I also get some

spamer, however, I do not hit the span button, I just delete it.

Whenever you get a email who you don't know the correspondence, don't even

waste your time to read it, or it will attach itself to your I.P. number which

belongs to your computer, and send you more spam!

There are anti-virus programs out there that prevents from whomever you are

visiting to not get access to your I.P. number where ever you roam!

Hope everyone stays healthy, as where ever you live the germs and bacteria

is breathing in our space!

Oh Yikes - I thought it was an " Anita " I had met over

the site - I couldn't log on because it said I was

already a member and I couldn't remember my Grouply

ID. Hope it didn't go through.

Thanks for the heads-up everyone.

I didn't receive it that I know of - but my provider may junk email it for

me. But, I think, a lot of the people who get it are email

addresses. If not, then usually because you are in someone's address book

that did sign up.

Hi Everyone,

I'd be curious to know if there are any members of the group who did

NOT receive the email requesting you to join grouply.

My best guess as to what caused this is that one of our members joined

this " Grouply " thing which then allowed the Grouply robot to come into

our group and pilfer our email addresses. Sort of the same way viruses

get into your email system and steal your contacts.

The best advice I can give is to NEVER give out any personal

information to anyone, especially not to unsolicited email requests

that you've received.

I'll see what else I can find out but for the mean time I'm fairly

confident that if you ignore the Grouply requests you have nothing to

fear.

Dear Tracey,

I did not get invited to join " grouply, " as I have a very strong anti-virus,

and my opening page is not with Microsoft nor Windows.

I have had Mozilla Firefox, which has its own way of protecting my computer from

just that!

I also use CA which is a device that has strong things against virus and

spamers!

If you are interested I could invite you to join Mozilla Firefox it is GREAT!!!

  • 1 year later...

I reported these emails as spam, and transferred to my spam folder.

There are several viral emails of this type circulatins and I suspect

they are just trying to get into your account. My parents gmail

account was totally hacked due to another 'social network' scam.
