Guest guest
I like to have mine on the right side after a disastrous one on my left side many years ago. I have found that walking right after the procedure helps immensely, as does a heat pack or an ice pack the next day. You will find that over time, that you will prefer one side over the other and you will discover that you will either like to be sedated or that you prefer to get it over with more quickly. It is never pleasant, but always seek ways to make it better. Guest guest
Just more susceptible to pain? I doub it. I no longer get BMBs from my hips because both sides are unusable. One side still causes problems even three years after the BMB! I now get BMBs from my sternum whi9ch is better but still painful and a little scary. It's just one of those things about CML that there's no way to gloss over. BMBs hurt -- some more than others -- and anyone who tells you that it's somehow your fault that it hurts so much should have one themselves! Ativan used to help me somewhat but the key is getting the lidocaine (sp?) in deep enough and let it take effect before doing the BMB. Secondly, it's always possible that they'll hit a " bad " spot -- like a nerve or something very painful. The last one I had was unbearable and for several weeks after the whole right side of my back from hips to neck was dark blue and black. Perhaps it isn't the doc's fault but some do seem to have a better record than others. Cheers, [ ] Bone Marrow Biopsy Pain Question Hey everyone, I need 'suggestions' I suppose. Guest guest
Sounds like something went wrong with your 2nd BMB. My first experience was horrible. I now am put under. It doesn't take them very long at all and I wake right up. When the feeling comes back there is pain and it is sore for a few days. My BMB's are done at M.D. hospital in Houston, Texas. Guest guest
I remember the first one that my Granny had. They made me go out in the hall and when they did the biopsy, I wanted to cry. I told the nurse that I could have done without hearing that. It sounded like Granny was trying to sing Opera. My husband and I also had to hold my son down while having one done from the hip. He was 2 years old. He yelled. I know it hurts just from those two experiences. I don't believe anybody could say it doesn't hurt. -- Kristie Skipper skipper3@... --------- [ ] Bone Marrow Biopsy Pain Question Hey everyone, I need 'suggestions' I suppose. Guest guest
I find it quite painful. THIS is what pain medication is FOR! I take two Vicodin about a half-hour beforehand, then the doc gives me quite a lot of lidocaine. And it *still* smarts like the dickens! I can't see why anyone would be put through the pain if it could be mitigated. From: skipper3@...
