Guest guest
NO, thank you Bobbie!! What a wonderful Thanksgiving story we do live in world of blessings. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and their families. From: ROBERTA DOYLE <rcd1929@...> Subject: [ ] a Thanksgiving story " " < > Date: Monday, November 24, 2008, 8:34 PM HI, THIS IS A TRUE STORY, SOME OF YOU MAY HAVE READ IT ON ANOTHER SITE, BUT IT'S A TRUE STORY AND MY FAVORITE, BECAUSE I LIVED IT. WE WERE LIVING IN A SMALL DESSERT TOWN UP IN THE SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS , IN CALIFORNIA IN 1965. THERE HAD BEEN SEVERAL DAYS OF RAIN UP IN BIG BEAR AND THE SURROUNDING MOUNTAINS, AND THE FLASH FLOODS WASHED OUT THE ONLY TWO ROADS INTO TOWN. NO ONE COULD GET IN AND NO ONE COULD GET OUT. NO ONE COULD GO SHOPPING FOR THANKSGIVING. WELL THERE WERE ONLY 67 PEOPLE THAT LIVED IN THIS TOWN CALLED PIONEERTOWN, AND LUCKILY SOME OF US WOMEN HAD ALREADY DONE OUR TURKEY SHOPPING. SO, THE PEOPLE THAT OWNED THE LOCAL SALOON , THE RED DOG SALOON, OPENED THE PLACE AND THEIR KITCHEN TO ALL OF US. THE LADIES ALL GOT TOGETHER AND COOKED UP THE TURKEYS, AND ALL THE TRIMMINGS THEY HAD BOUGHT, THE TEENAGERS MADE PIES AND DESSERTS. THE GUYS SET UP THE TABLES, AND CHAIRS AND MADE SURE EVERYONE IN TOWN HAD A RIDE THERE. JUST AS WE WERE LEAVING OUR HOUSE TO GO TO DINNER WITH EVERYONE ELSE, THE RAIN STOPPED AND THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RAINBOW APPEARED. IT WAS LIKE HAVING THE MAN UPSTAIRS SMILE DOWN ON ALL OF US, AND THIS WAS CERTAINLY MY MOST MEMORABLE THANKSGIVING. WE HAD A LOT TO BE THANKFUL FOR THAT YEAR, AND WE HAVE EVEN MORE TO BE THANKFUL FOR THIS YEAR. THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR BEING HERE FOR EACH OTHER, AND HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY, LOVE, BOBBY
Guest guest
I think Bobby is smoking medicinal marijuana as his story has more holes than swiss cheese.? Tell us the truth Bobby!? You lost your license, were too inebriated to leave the Red Dog Saloon, where you had been for many hours and thus your family decided that since you were not able to stand, much less walk home, they would bring the meal to you. Confession is good for the soul, my friend.? Guest guest
I am amused that there are people out there that may not believe my story. Amused because, I guess if i were going to make it up, I could most likely do a better job of it! But in truth, it is the truth. I was living in California at the time with my husband and 6 children, ages 2 to 11.. It was a tiny little town built by cowboy movie stars in the late '40's. They named it Pioneertown, and Sons of the Pioneer and others like Roy , Judge Roy Bean, Lucky Hayden, Hopalong's side kick, etc built it so they would have a permanent movie set. There was not only the Red Dog Saloon, there was a Golden Stallion bar and restaurant. They were also developing the surrounding 25,000 acres, but unfortunately they went broke . In the early 60's my husband's brother in law bought it with the same idea, not as a movie set, but to develop. He too went broke. But in the meantime, we moved from Santa to this little town and lived in what was called Maggie's Feed Barn, part of the movie set. My buddy lived in the local grocery store, and another buddy lived in the gun shop. Believe it or not, on weekends, as a way of attracting tourists, the ladies all wore old fashioned dresses, and the men all wore cowboy clothes and carried guns. There was a group of marines from the 29 Palms Marine base that had a gun club and would come up weekends and have shoot outs and hangings and horse races. On Sundays we would all go to church at the Red Dog Saloon, the guys checking their guns before the service. It was sort of like living a make believe life. When my husband was 18 he went there to visit his uncle who lived up on claimed land up in the mountains. While he was there he met the Cisco Kid who was making a movie, and was so impressed, he always wanted to live there. So, when he retired at age 38, that's where we went to live. He got to play cowboy every day,. He'd go to the Red Dog and play checkers and drink with his buddies. It all came to an end Good Friday, 1966, when someone set fire to the Red Dog early in the morning and it burned to the ground. 24 hours later, someone set fire to the Golden Stallion, Easter Sunday morning, and it too burned to the ground. The next day my husband was rushed to the hospital, he lived 12 days. That was a Thurs.. Fri. I had him cremated, and Sat. I got on a plane with my children and came back to Cleveland. He died of peritonitis due to a ruptured appendix. Didn't mean to ramble on so long, but thought my Thanksgiving Story needed a little back up. Have a happy thanksgiving, love, Bobby a (Bobby) Doyle Brecksville, Ohio, USA DX 05/1995 02/2000 - Gleevec Trial/OHSU 06/2002 - Gleevec/Trisenox Trial/OHSU 06/2003 - Gleevec/Zarnestra Trial/OHSU 04/2004 - Sprycel Trial/MDACC, CCR in 10 months #840 - Zavie's Zero Club 09/2006 - out of CCR 04/29/08 - XL228 Trial/ U.of Michigan 06/02/08 - CCR ( in 4 weeks) From: ROBERTA DOYLE <rcd1929sbcglobal (DOT) net> Subject: [ ] a Thanksgiving story " " <groups (DOT) com> Date: Monday, November 24, 2008, 8:34 PM HI, THIS IS A TRUE STORY, SOME OF YOU MAY HAVE READ IT ON ANOTHER SITE, BUT IT'S A TRUE STORY AND MY FAVORITE, BECAUSE I LIVED IT. ? I will punish myself by taking double doses of Tasigna today and eating grapefruit to enhance the bone pain I will get.? Is that enough penance? I was just trying to lighten things up as we get to the holidays. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! WE WERE LIVING IN A SMALL DESSERT TOWN UP IN THE SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS , IN CALIFORNIA ?IN 1965.? THERE HAD BEEN SEVERAL DAYS OF RAIN UP IN BIG BEAR AND THE SURROUNDING MOUNTAINS, AND THE FLASH FLOODS WASHED OUT THE ONLY TWO ROADS INTO TOWN.? NO ONE COULD GET IN AND NO ONE COULD GET OUT.?? NO ONE COULD GO SHOPPING FOR THANKSGIVING. WELL THERE WERE ONLY 67 PEOPLE THAT LIVED IN THIS TOWN CALLED PIONEERTOWN, AND LUCKILY SOME OF US WOMEN HAD ALREADY DONE OUR TURKEY SHOPPING.? SO, THE PEOPLE THAT OWNED? THE LOCAL SALOON?, ?THE RED DOG SALOON, OPENED THE PLACE AND THEIR KITCHEN ?TO ALL OF US. THE LADIES ALL GOT TOGETHER AND COOKED UP THE TURKEYS, AND ALL THE TRIMMINGS ?THEY HAD BOUGHT, THE TEENAGERS ?MADE PIES AND DESSERTS. THE GUYS SET UP THE TABLES, AND CHAIRS AND MADE SURE EVERYONE IN TOWN HAD A RIDE THERE. JUST AS WE WERE LEAVING OUR HOUSE TO GO TO DINNER WITH EVERYONE ELSE, THE RAIN STOPPED AND THE? MOST BEAUTIFUL RAINBOW APPEARED.? IT WAS LIKE HAVING THE MAN UPSTAIRS SMILE DOWN ON ALL OF US, AND THIS WAS CERTAINLY MY MOST MEMORABLE THANKSGIVING. WE HAD A LOT TO BE THANKFUL FOR THAT YEAR, AND WE HAVE EVEN MORE TO BE THANKFUL FOR THIS YEAR.? Guest guest
Hi Matt, Of course I would defend you, but I preferred to watch this one play out. Very amusing. Also, no chance that I was getting into armed conflict with Bobby. We all know how tough she is. I love it when some of the posts turn to non medical chatter. It means that we are getting on with life and our CML is taking a back seat to living life. Guest guest
Dear Matt, Many of us who know Bobby are afraid to come to your defense. We know that Bobby has a very large gun and is willing to track us down. We just lay back and let Bobby go after you and say " WHEW! Thank God and the Great Turkey that it wasn't me " .
