When to take aspirin

There are probably more than a few of you out there who take aspirin. I didn't

know there was a right and wrong to take it. Dr. Art Ulene is a board member of

AARP and has written about this subject. Part of the article is below and if

you are interested in more information, I will also furnish you with the web

site to read more.

1. If your blood pressure is normal, take the aspirin at whatever time of day

you are most likely to remember it.

2. If you have a slightly elevated blood pressure, or " prehypertension " (under

140 systolic and 90 diastolic), take your aspirin in the evening. Two studies

have shown that, in people with prehypertension, the systolic blood pressure

(the higher number) drops about five points and the diastolic pressure drops

about three points when aspirin is taken before bedtime. No change occurs when

the aspirin is taken in the morning.
