Oh that is so funny. My iron fry pan I got as a wedding present from my Mom who

has been gone for 33 yrs. I got so sick of taking it back and forth to the

trailer with me that my daughter bought me another one last xmas. They are heavy

but I love to cook in it . Thanks for the story.

Take care; Eva

Dear Eva,

I had my laugh of the day when I read your post about using an iron pot to cook

in. I had heard that when I was much younger that cooking in an iron pot would

give you all the iron you needed, but completely forgotten about it. When I was

expecting my first child, I told the doctor I didn't eat spinach and he said,

" Don't worry about it, there's not much more iron in spinach than on a rusty

nail. " I never even tried to eat it again. I figured that doctors knew all there

was to know about health matters. How wrong I was, they were lacking in the area

of nutrition. The thing that made me laugh, though was when I was quite young,

my mother was in the hospital and my dad was not one to piddle in the kitchen,

so I decided to make a red gravy with steak. When it was done, it had turned

black. My dad didn't want me to feel bad, so he said it was fine and ate it, but

I couldn't bring myself to eat anything black. LOL. I have a whole collection of

those old pots but I don't use them because they are too heavy for me to lift.

Nothing better to fry chicken or fish in. Oh, I forgot, I don't eat chicken,

either.

Blessings,

Lottie

Lottie, I fry in an iron skillet all the time.  I can hardly pick it up, but I

love it.  My  sister and I were laughing the other day about our mom's Dutch

oven, wishing we still had it - but laughing because neither of us could pick it

up empty let alone full of pot roast and veggies!  I sort if  doubt the veracity

of it helping your daily quota of iron, but it truly is the best cook ware

ever!

My sister always said if she caught her husband cheating, she would wait until

he was asleep and slam him across the head with her 14 " iron skillet, so don't

ever throw one away, they  have multiple uses!!
