Guest guest
Hal, Maybe she could suggest they contact SHHH? I think they would know the best of anyone. But thanks for the vote of confidence! Any ideas. Hal
Guest guest
Hal, Since the loop is being recommended nationwide and is functional in the US House of Representatives since 1/1/05 - this would be the best recommendation as people bring in their own hearing equipment (hearing aids and cochlear implants). There is a national effort to have public buildings, airports, train stations, museums, government offices, bank tellers, drive up restaurant windows, churches etc. equipt with loops as they are now in Europe. Additionally, there is a drive on to educate the audiologists to activate the T-coil in hearing aids with this in mind and not just phone use. The surprise has been the lack of education at the professional end but things are rapidly changing in this direction. The audiologist has an important part of this picture as they need to have their patients order a T-coil when they order the hearing equipment. Surprisingly enough, the average cost to add a T-coil to a hearing aid is $60.00. The initial purchase can be expensive for the establishment but there is very little maintenance needed once this is done and people bring in their own device to utilize it - attached to their ears - thus there is no need to continually maintain and replace the external equipment. Refer your daughter to this site if she needs it: http://www.hearingloop.org/ Alice http://www..com > > My daughter just got a job she loves with the Museum of Radio and TV > Broadcasting in New York City. Guest guest
Dear China, Thank you for the explanation of what " accomodation " means. I'm sure someelse will benefit from the information. I, too have low levels of white and red blood counts. When I was on INF, my wbc was l.0 and I had a friend with lymphoma who has .01. She has been living with it for 40 years. Would they be able to offer you a job with another agency, or does it have to be within the current workplace. I know the insurance issue is a scary one, but if you are over 50, AARP will insure you. I hope none of that will become necessary, but at least you know your rights, something I didn't know, because I have been out of the workplace for many years, other than a temp as a Girl. Thanks for the link, I will take a look at it. After 18 years, you should be well vested in a retirement plan, etc. I also see that you have had several unfortunate circumstances that caused you to ask for leave. I met a man at my granddaughter's pinning tonight. His daughter was also getting her nursing pin. His mother graduated with me and he grew up in our neighborhood, so my children attended school with them and knew their family well. When I asked how his mother was, he said she passed away last year of Alzheimers. I was shocked. It is a terrible disease to see someone waste away and I think I would not trade CML for the other. Wishing you the best of luck, China, that you can get a good placement elsewhere if your current job is dissolved. Blessings, Lottie
Guest guest
Lottie thank you for the good wishes....does that mean I should not hold out for the hem/onc of my dreams? Met with my supervisor this am. He will begin working on finding me another spot since I am volunteering to move in order to save those I supervise( long story). Short term I need to stay here but things are going to be quite ugly for a long time with layoffs etc.(it as already started) and frankly- I don't need the stress. My eye has been twitching for a week. So I will be looking for something outside my agency but I need to remain insured with less than a 30 day break so they cannot refuse my pre- existing and expensive condition. Congrats on the nurse in the family!!! Regarding the Alzheimer- I stopped going back to Pa ( at my mother's request- I was there two weeks of every month for about 6 months) when my father didn't know who I was. My mom wanted my daughter to remeber him as he was not who he was becomming( diapers, fearful etc). He was very nice but he didn't have any idea of my name or that I was his daughter. He died 6 months later. My dad had Alzheimers my mom has vascular dementia- I tell people it may not be such a bad thing that I have leukemia. Guest guest
Chi, that is what they mean when they say even though we are upset with the dx of CML one day we will learn to count our blessings. My son in law has parkinson's, and I am so thankful I have CML and not PD. He is only 57 and I am in better health than he is..and it breaks my heart to see him. We are so fortunate that we have drugs that can allow us a halfway decent qol. Guest guest
Bobby- Although it was the Alzheimer that ultimately took him my dad had prostate cancer for 20 years and Parkinson's. The Parkinson's was controlled with meds but he was late 70's upon diagnosis. I just read an article about J Fox. It is a horrible disease especially when someone still has much life before them. Hugs and blessings to you and yours. I agree we are very fortunate for our drugs. the next time I see a Novartis rep when I'm at my hem/onc I'm going to kiss him-smile. I feel I am being the bad child. You will notice I am posting more than usual because I am taking stress breaks from work- people are walking around shell shocked. Guest guest
When I'm stressed out I find great relief in posting to the group. There is almost always someone that has been there, or knows someone who has and it's just nice to talk to someone who knows what you're going through,. This economy of our has shattered my world, but there is nothing i can do about it, not much sense in crying, it won't put the money back. I am not in the working world, but my heart goes out to you and those that are. The word security is a word of the past. I like to think things cannot get much worse, they have to turn around and get better, this stress is not good for any of us.
