Guest guest
Hi Bobby, Hope you are not too exhausted from all the cooking and company. Did Len and Ernie get to come to your home? Hope you all had a rollicking good time. By the way, what happened to that old website that featured the story about the old town in the desert? Is that still online? We went to our oldest son's house. All of his wife's family was there, except for her brother who lives in Dallas and his family. Then we went to see son #2 and there were still a few Cubans there that you smile and hug and pretend to understand what they are saying. One has a real thick accent and is going to college, still has 2 more years to go. I asked what her major was and she wants to teach English. That is funny. My kids don't like to go over when they have all the Cubans speaking Spanish, but if they want to keep their language, that's o.k. with me, but they should speak English when others are around. It doesn't bother me as much as it used to, because it's not going to change, so I might as well get used to it and so should they. It's their home if they want to invite them, just just never left Cuba. LOL. Those people came here with $2, that's all they were allowed to leave Cuba with and one extra set of clothes, they kept everything else for Castro. They went to work as soon as they hit the ground. My DIL's parents bought a home as soon as they had $200 to put down and she worked at a department store and paid the house in advance. Then she cleaned houses and put money aside for a little retirement. He had a job at a shipyard and gets a small pension and social security. They never went on welfare or got food stamps. I have to give them credit for that. Their children finished high school and one went to Junior College and works for a chemical company. The other also went to Junior College in Mobile and learned how to repair computers for the company he worked with and traveled around the world. In spite of the fact that he made a lot of money, he didn't marry his girlfriend until they had 2 children and she got food stamps and food for the kids until they were 3. Boy, my DIL didn't like that at all, she doesn't believe in getting welfare, but they are a tight family. When they have a wedding, they come from all over the country. They are all well dressed and educated, but they still act like Cubans, never learned much about the American culture or manners. Maybe it will take a few generations. I'm going to say sayonora, getting very sleepy. Have a good weekend and take care. xoxoxox Lottie
