Sodium Hydroxide at Pool Supply Stores?

Hi all,

I have read on several lists that people are able to buy their lye in bulk at

Pool Supply Stores, however I am striking out. I have given them all the

names that I know that it might go by, Sodium Hydroxide, Caustic Soda, Lye.

I have called numerous stores only to get the same questioning response,

" What in the world is it used in the pool industry for? " Being Pool-less I'm

afraid I have no idea. I am beginning to wonder if maybe it's a regional

thing and maybe my area (Southern Oregon) just doesn't have the need for it

in their pool care. Now I am just very curious...anyone got any thoughts?
