Here is Rodriquez' e-mail

rodriquezf@..., last I heard he was Dr

Pattii's admin assistant. UCSF used to have a list of

local hotels, but the one they gave me was several

yeras old, so maybe they gave up keeping it up to

date.

I'm late for work, tonight I tell you what I did about

the hotel.

Hi ,

I don't have much experience with Dr. Patti. I have only been to see

him once. It is Carolyn who is more experienced with the office staff there. I

see Dr. Ostroff, the GI doc at UCSF who has experience with achalasia. I was

just there yesterday and waiting for a call back from them today to schedule

another endoscopy in 2 months.

If I were you, I would call back and ask to speak to . This is

what I did and he called me back right away, however he wasn't able to help me

because my PCP had to take care of getting my initial authorization to be seen

out of network. Now Dr. Ostroff's office takes care of it.

Also, I would call back and make sure they know you are flying in out

of town and tell them you need to have all the tests done in one visit!

Hopefully they will be more accommodating of your scheduling needs.

Here's a link to some hotels near UCSF...hope this helps!

The Hyatt is very nice. It's downtown on Market St., right near BART and Muni.

I guess you first need to decide if you want to be close to the

hospital, and find out how easy it is to take public transportation to and from

the hospital, or if it's in walking distance.

Going to California

Well, I called and made an appointment for my husband to

see Dr.

Patti today. We'll be seeing him on Valentine's Day (I hope

that's a

good omen). Here's our busy upcoming agenda: Jan. 30 - Cleveland

Clinic for gastric emptying, barium swallow, and chest and abdomen CT

(as my sister the x-ray tech put it, " breakfast, lunch, and

dinner " ).

Jan. 31st - pulmonary function and consult with Dr. Rice.

Feb. 14 -

consult with Dr. Patti.

Sandi, I was a little disappointed because I didn't

get to talk to

to schedule the appointment. Dr. Patti even suggested in

his e

mail that I talk to him. I asked for him in the beginning but the

woman I was talking to said she could handle things. She did

O.K.,

but when I asked about any help with directions, accomodations or help

with travel arrangements, she said they don't offer anything like

that. We haven't taken the time to check into airfares and hotel

room

rates nearby yet, but I was thinking of checking UCSF's website for

any suggestion of help for that kind of thing. I also had a

really

hard time getting through on their phone system. Maybe it's

because

I'm used to calling Cleveland

(with their toll-free number, I might

add) and just asking for the extension for the doctor's office or

whatever department I'm looking for. At UCSF, I got lost in their

phone menu and disconnected more than once. Also, Cleveland

Clinic is

very accomodating when it came to arranging any tests to be done while

we're in town (they got him next day appointments for tests while we

were there in August). From what this woman said, at UCSF, it

would

take a while to get the tests scheduled. Hopefully, he doesn't

need

any further tests. It's hard to just fly back any time for that.

I'm

hoping the minor hassles (and the major hassle of traveling

cross-country) will all be worth it if he gives some hope of

feeling better!

Take care, all!

Sandi,

Thanks so much for the info! After I posted, I realized that it

was Carolyn (and maybe Dave, also) that had the most experience with

Dr. Patti. She has already contacted me with info as well. I think I

will call soon to get more info. I would hope that they would

try to help make things more convenient for a patient traveling

cross-country to see them. We're hoping that the tests he's having in

Cleveland would be sufficient for Dr. Patti, but I'm going to check

with to make sure. Thanks, again, for your help and the link

for the hotels! Everyone in this group is so kind and caring!

When I had my myotomty with Dr Patti I had to travel

to UCSF 4 or 5 times, I live about 4 hours away so

usually would spend the night.

I stayed at the Cathedral Hill Hotel, it is about 2

miles from UCSF, is a about a $12.00 cab ride and is

convenient for public transportation (N Judah train, I

think). The price varied between 100-125 a night, a

bit pricey, I know, but for San Francisco isn't too

bad. Their phone is 800) 622 0855

The closest to UCSF is the Carl Hotel, Ive heard good

and bad about it, but I have never been there.

Make sure or whoever you deal with at UCSF know

how far out of town you are, they seem to really try

to accommodate out of towners.

Dear Debra,

I am sure you will like Dr. Pacquette. I think he replaced Dr. Sawyers who

left for Sloan Kettering Memorial. I can tell you that they are trialing the

XL228 that Bobby Doyle is on. I wish you much luck and will look forward to

hearing from you when you return to Illinois. Kudos to you for taking a giant

leap of faith and stepping outside the box to make a change in your life. This

could be the single most important move you hever had to make and I pray it is

to your benefit. Wishing you all the best, you will receive excellent treatment

there.

Blessings,

Lottie
