Guest guest
Tracey- Thank you- we adopted my daughter when she was 5 months old( I had a hysterectomy) so I got a very special delivery- I'm not aware of the ins and outs of the 9 month journey. I don't trust everything I read on the internet but check out the link I found. I already have a few of the uncommon side effects as I know most of us have. This listed breast enlargement. Reproductive: Uncommon: breast enlargement, menorrhagia, sexual dysfunction, gynecomastia, erectile dysfunction, menstruation irregular, nipple pain, scrotal edema http://www.rxlist.com/gleevec-drug.htm I'm seeing my doc next month and I will ask for the test. Date: Friday, December 12, 2008, 5:48 PM Hi Chi, Prolactin is a hormone that causes the breasts to swell and if it's high enough, you could even start to lactate (like some women do in the later stages of pregnancy). It's simple to check with a simple blood test. It's just another box to check off on the form with the CBC. Mine goes up and down (like the rest of the Gleevec side effects) and although the doctors have no interest in investigating to see if it's Gleevec related, I have exhausted all the other possibilities and as a result, have concluded that it must be the Gleevec. Guest guest
What if your tests show your prolactin level is too high? What can be done to lower it? From: chimera46@... Guest guest
Hi , I guess it depends how high it is. Although mine was three times higher than it should have been (mine was 60 when it should have been below 20), nothing was ever done about it. I've had it tested a few times and it comes back down to normal on its own. I can tell when it's high because the girls start to fall out of my bra and they're much more sensitive when it's high. I would love to see if other women have the same experience with high prolactin levels. I wonder if a bunch of us start seeing the same effect, if the doctors will FINALLY look into the hormone issues surrounding Gleevec.
