I have another tip for the "brain freeze" phenomena - I read once, and tried it too, that if you avoid the icy drink or food from having direct contact with the roof of your mouth that it can prevent the "brain freeze" discomfort. Drinking with a straw helps too. HTH, Pam T From: Lea Ann Savage <lsavage@...>

I will be very interested to hear what you think of your room temperature smoothies!I like mine cold (but not freezing cold) but I always keep each mouthful in my mouth and swish it around (and even "chew" my teeth together) until the temperature of the smoothie is the same as my body before I swallow. This does many beneficial things:1) mixes saliva into the food in your mouth (saliva contains the enzyme amylase that help to 'pre-digest' carbs) http://purchon.com/wordpress/biology/?page_id=982) gives your brain time to interpret the signals that come from your mouth telling your stomach what is coming down the hatch (your brain/mouth/stomach connection = brain senses what is in the mouth and signals to the stomach to ready the appropriate

enzymes)3) allows you to warm up the food before it hits your stomach - which is a good thing:http://foodandhealthsecrets.com/2010/09/cold-water-drinking-and-indigestion/http://www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/nutrition/healthy-eating/ice-water-and-digestion.html4) "chewing my teeth together" (I place them together and apply pressure - like jaw/teeth exercise - 3 reps per mouth full) helps maintain strong jaw bone mass (and the jaw bones hold in your teeth! ;-)http://www.rawfamily.com/news/2012/04/12-04-03.html?keepThis=true & TB_iframe=true & height=650 & width=650(I just exercise my teeth/jaws without the tool mentioned above, but the article explains why it is important to do the exercises)I also instinctively (before I ever researched any of this) drank my water at room temperature

or slightly warmer. I always drink 3 cups of water (a mason jar full) about 15 minutes before each meal) and have always consumed it at room temperature. When I do shows at Whole Foods Markets the water in my jugs gets so cold (they keep their stores COLD) that I have to add some hot water to my mason jar full of water before I drink it because I just never drink cold water…So, long way of saying - sometimes my smoothies might be cold when entering my mouth, but if they are - I warm them up in my mouth before they are allowed "down the hatch" ;-)
