I go to U of M on Wed. to have some labs and to meet with a doctor. I'm

excited and scared all at the same time.

And, I want to know why if I eat a particular snack and take my Gleevec one

night - do I feel fine? And the the next night eat the exact same thing and

feel like throwing up? I only get this nausea once a month or so - but I

just know I am going to throw up. Ugh!

Hi Tammy,

I am not sure your age BUT for a lot of women who aren't on any medications,

they feel nauseas when estrogen levels peak during the month. Add your daily

dose of gleevec and wow- you got a nice case of nausea on your hands. My

husband is really ill feeling every night - no matter what he eats or does,

he has to sit still for about 45 minutes each evening..its been 2 years on

gleevec like this. It really depends on each individual person. Write down

any and all questions for your Dr, it will help direct your appointment so

are heard.

That is a really good question.  I've only been troubled by occasional nausea

with my pill, and I've tried to figure out what the best food is to take with

the gleevec--a protein, a carb, or is it just a certain amount of calories?  I

started out taking it at bedtime with a frozen meal/snack, but had to adjust

that b/c I gained some weight.  Currently I take it in the evening with dinner

or some peanut butter.  Hope your appt goes well, and I understand your mixed

feelings.  I'm always glad to get good news, but I still find it hard to believe

I will have an oncologist for the rest of my life.  Good luck--
