Guest guest
Suzzie, I have had 3 colonoscopies done in the last year and a half. My last one was in October and everything went well. In July I had one done and they found a polyp that grew into my appendix so I had to have surgery to have it removed. For me the hardest part was drinking the prep the day before. The test itself I don't remember as they give you some good drugs that make you forget. Mine was done at University of Michigan which is a teaching hospital so there where 2 doctors present for my last two. Everything went smoothly. Take care it will go smoothly for you also, Chuck ________________________________ From: suzzienovember <suzzienovember@...> Sent: Friday, January 9, 2009 6:12:38 PM Subject: [ ] ANYBODY HAVE A COLONOSCOPY LATELY I have to get my 5 year colonoscopy this Tuesday, because they found a benign polyp on my last one. Guest guest
Thanks for the support. Just glad you don't have to do the old prep anymore. Its just 2 10oz. glasses of citrate of magnesium mixed in Ginger Ale now. Sorry you had to get surgery Chuck on one of them. I assume the polyp was benign that grew so big. Guest guest
Hi, I just had a colonoscopy, and had to use the old prep. My pharmacist gave me a good clue on how to take it. Buy Chrystal Light, orange is best, and mix it into the prep, sure makes it taste a lot better. My dr. prefers the ole prep, I think it's called " go-lightly " and that is an oxymoron if I ever heard one!! Good luck, I don't know what they give you to put you to sleep, but I don't even remember being in the room. Guest guest
I took the pill prep when I had one a few months ago. I have a HORRIBLE time drinking something I don't like the taste of... I don't like Ginger Ale either, but managed to get enough down to take the pills with. I hope to not have to do that again for a very long time. The colonoscopy itself wasn't bad at all... but the prep was! I was hungry and irritable! Guest guest
, Yup the polyp was benign.... However I had to drink the citrate magnesium two days before, then the gallon of the nasty stuff the next day. In the doctors notes he wants another one done in a year and he put in he wants me to drink the gallon prep two days in a row... Oh Joy... Guess I will just move my bed to the bathroom for that week. Guest guest
Hi Chuck: I remember that gallon stuff they had to drink, but they changed the prep a long time ago. I wonder why you have to do such a heavy prep for yours. Maybe your doctor still follows the old system. Most people I have spoken to, all said that they only had to drink the magnesium citrate. I have to do a 10oz. bottle in the morning the day before my procedure, and another one in the evening. Then nothing but lots of water they told me, and then I go in the next morning for my scope. I do remember years ago, they made you do a enema also. It makes you wonder how much of the prep is really necessary. Thanks for all your information. The one I had 5 years ago, was so simple. It was with a different doctor, and I guess not being familiar with this one makes me nervous. ITs these stupid insurances that control who you go to. You have been through it all with colonoscopies, but let me share a story with you about the doctor I am going to have mine done with. I got the story from the mans daughter, and she told me to feel confident with this doctor. Her father ate a whole cob of corn, cob and everything because his grandchildren dared him to do it. Well the cob swelled up inside his colon, and this doctor thought he would have to do surgery to open up the colon to get it out. He worked on him for quite awhile, and got the cob out of his colon without surgery, therefore, her father now sings this doctors praises to everyone. I guess that should make me feel good. Guest guest
Suzie, I've had ulcerative colitis since I was 22 (I'm 59), so have to have colonoscopies more often than the " normal " population. From what I've noticed from close friends and family, most people do quite well (though they don't enjoy drinking the prep liquid) and don't remember a thing about the procedure. Unfortunately, mine don't go smoothly and I can figure on being out of commission and in pain for 3 days, but then I have a pre existing condition and have to have many biopsies each time. ****You can bet I will keep you in my prayers.**** JoAnn > > > > From: Chuck R <full_of_chuckles> > > Subject: Re: [ ] ANYBODY HAVE A COLONOSCOPY LATELY > > groups (DOT) com > > Date: Friday, January 9, 2009, 6:46 PM > > > > Suzzie, > > I have had 3 colonoscopies done in the last year and a half.
