I am thinking of buying an excalibur dehydrator and can't decide on the 5 or 9

tray size. I was wondering if someone who has one could tell me how much space

is in between the trays? Thanks,

Janet

Hello Janet - I just went and measured mine - there is an inch from the center of one tray to the center of the other - so taking into account the thickness of the trays there is a tad less than an inch of space between the trays. I rarely have to remove a try to make room for something that is too big to dehydrate between the existing trays.I highly recommend the 9-tray model. You will be happy to have all of that surface area when you need it!

I also want to purchase an Excalibur, and was planning to do so today to take

advantage of a sale they are currently running, which ends this evening. I

already have a 5-tray round Nesco, which does a decent job, but now I want the

" better " dehydrator. On the Excalibur site, they indicate that the 5-tray model

is best suited for small families, so that's what I was planning to buy. Again,

I do have my Nesco too. Would you recommend that I go with the 9-tray model vs.

the 5-tray? Thanks in advance!

It really depends on what you intend to do with it. I grow most of our food, so

preserving it is important, but the main reason I wish I had gone with the 9

tray is so I could do yogurt in larger containers-with the smaller one, you are

limited to the smaller jars. Removing the trays gives you ample room for the

smaller ones, but it would have been nice to have the extra headspace. The 4 or

5 tray is fine for most things, other than the fact that I wanted the extra

room. I have the square Nesco, which I bought to put in my motorhome, but I am

actually loving it enough that I now use it in place of the Excalibur, but this

time of year,I am not needing the extra space.
